Oversee.net, the parent company of three of the best-known brands in the domain industry, DomainSponsor, Moniker and SnapNames, announced that they are laying off 18% of their workforce, including some at the management level. The cuts come on the heels of a previous 10% workforce reduction last August.
GoDaddy's TDNAM aftermarket domain auction site has a new name - it's now GoDaddy Auctions. In a related note, GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons describes his typical workday in a new magazine interview. Also today, America's .US ccTLD gets a nice plug from a popular TV actress.
After two weeks that were shortened by major holidays, the domain aftermarket just logged its first full week of 2009. Ironically, while sales held up surprisingly well over the holiday season, a lot of buyers seem to have gone on vacation while everyone else was returning to work this week. We have all of the reported sales industry wide.
In DN Journal's Lowdown today: New Yahoo CEO brings hope of a stronger competitor to Google, free videos of T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Down Under seminars go online and a press release touting an alleged multi-million dollar sale of a .travel domain fails the "smell test" among veteran domainers.
The old system of media gatekeepers deciding who can report the news and what news will be published is being washed away once and for all. With a domain name and hosting account anyone can operate a media platform that reaches every corner of the globe.
A new article in Inc. Magazine profiles PlentyOfFish.com founder Markus Frind who, working by himself, developed and runs a site that generates $10 million a year and pays him a $5 million annual salary. Frind is no workaholic either - most days his work is done in under an hour.
At a time where flat is the new up it seems hard to believe that anyone could expect to sell anything for - but in the domaining world, that't not all too hard. Domain names are relatively small investments -...
According to the official Google blog, 100 Google HR positions were recently eliminated. Although minor in the scheme of things (Google lists roughly 20,000 employees as of September 2008) this move gives a clear sign that the company is scaling back.? The Google post also references the recent cuts of contractor positions which you can

Google's black box of ad pricing makes it impossible to understand if partners are getting a fair share.
When Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) offered a "direct to consumer" domain parking option last month, many cheered. "Finally, we can cut out the middleman!" they exclaimed. But others worried about potential downsides. Specifically, domain owners reali...
January's Great Domains auction hopes to match last month's total.

On a day that I really shouldn't be working I felt that I needed too! I need to keep my mind busy to keep it off our recent lose. So I was thinking, what are the best places to buy domain names right now?
This depends on your budget for buying domains and what you need

I don't know the buyer or anything about the domain names, but it appears that WeddingPlanning.com, WeddingPlanning.net and WeddingPlanning.org are being offered for sale on Ebay with a Buy It Now price of $150,000 - which I think is great considering the keywords. There is also a "make offer" option as well, in the event
There are a lot of people on the domain forums who don't have much business experience, and there are others who do have business experience but don't have much Internet forum experience. Many became domain investors by accident, and by one way or another, they found a place like DNForum or NamePros.? I had been

I just saw Rick's post about financing domain names purchased through his newsletter and think its a pretty good deal. If you are able to develop one of the domain names he is offering, you can probably be cash flow positive on it in short order.
To put this deal into perspective, I want to create
I've heard stories of people taking ridiculous exams and being asked some pretty "hard" questions during their Google interviews–but things just got a lot "harder" to make it into the good ‘ol Google Plex (rated #1 place to work in the world). Google made a blog post telling everyone that they would be hiring at...
Steve Jobs recently announced that he will be taking a 6-month leave from Apple. Jobs has seriously been a huge part of Apple–and, to be honest with you, the Apple image. I've had talks with some people that purchased Apple stock just because of Jobs' creativity, and are now looking to get rid of it.
Why does it matter that Carlos Slim Hel? saved $55,000,000? It's because some Indonessian dude threatened to forward his name with ".com" after it, (CarlosSlimHelu.com), to a hardcore porn site. What does the billionaire do instead? He sued the cyber-squatter (This is one of those times where I feel "WIPO" actually does something smart).

I have seen a few signs in the last?few months?that lead me to believe the the housing market in West Los Angeles is going to suffer a major collapse over the next?9-18 months.? How 'What's our name?' became cry of the Ravens -- baltimoresun.comThe subject was one with which the Harbaughs were familiar. Jack Harbaugh would often use the story of Muhammad Ali as a teaching tool. He would tell his sons how Ali never quit against Joe Frazier, how he outsmarted George Foreman. And of course, how he repeatedly asked a heavyweig...

There was a rumour going round some time ago that Google takes the registration period of a domain name into account when ranking a new website. Basically a longer period of say 10 years tells your visitors (and Google) that you?re serious and in it for the long haul.
You have probably come across? review websites when looking for information on a product. I often find that apart from some well known websites, many are empty when you click on them and just filled with advertising. Now Matt Cutts is encouraging people to report examples of these websites as spam to Google for further

I published a post back on January 3rd about ICANN annual report.
In chatting about ICANN plan to introduce hundreds or maybe thousands of new extension I commented that in my opinion, the is little demand for the new extensions and that its seemed to be driven by ICANN to generate additional revnue.
