Sedo rang up the year's 6th reported 7-figure domain sale this past week and went on to sweep the first five spots on our weekly Top 20 Sales Chart (taking 8 of the first 10 positions and 12 of 20 overall). They also put a 6-figure sale and a pair of ccTLDs on the elite list. The AfternicDLS and Moniker also had multiple chart entries.
New gTLDs are still months away but the lawsuits and recriminations have already begun. Turf battles over who gets to run the new registries reportedly feature everything from a delusional newbie who thinks new gTLDs will make her the "next Bill Gates" to a wacky group claiming the new TLD rights to every sport on earth!

If, like me, you spend a lot of time traversing the lists at
Scam moves to a new domain.
I'm getting tired of writing these stories (again), but I consider them a public service announcement.
A long running domain name appraisal scam has moved to a new domain name, Macez.com. That the scammers keep moving shows that the scam is working well by getting unsuspecting people to pay for
Transamerica's lawyers get a quick education in how the domain name ecosystem works.

The original lawsuit claimed that Moniker used fictitious entities to register trademark-infringing domain names on its own beh...
Casinos.org owner can keep domain but panel fails to find RDNH.
As a follow up to an article on Domain Name Wire back in June, the owner of Casinos.org has successfully defended his domain name in a UDRP case.
Cedric Rimbault of Rungis, France, registered a French trademark for Casinos.org and registered the c-a-s-i-n-o-s.org domain name.
Consulting firm sues Wolfgang Puck and his wife over failed .food deal.
As if the new top level domain craze couldn't get any weirder, new TLD consulting firm Minds+Machines is suing Wolfgang Puck and his wife. The lawsuit was filed by Minds+Machines, Top Level Domain Holdings, LTD., a British Virgin Islands registered company, and Federick...
Understanding the power of the internet and knowing how vital search engines are, being a website owner it is vital that you use terms that people are going to be searching for before they even search.
Here is an example of a post that I wrote late last night and how I decided what to use
Welcome to another domain name micro-post from DotWeekly.com! In my micro-posts I write little things that are on my mind but are not worth a full posting, but still something that I like to write and combine them into one posting!

Mike posted an article about a case that I read yesterday regarding Louis Vuitton being awarded $32 million in damages from two hosting companies that were found guilty of Contributory Trademark Infringement. The companies had apparently been informed that there were counterfeit goods being sold on websites it hosted, but it did nothing:

The first day of the .CM auctions on Namejet closed yesterday, and the auction cleared $500,000. I was not surprised by this number, but I am surprised about how many people seem to be bidding on .CM domain names. My company did not bid on a single .cm domain auction, despite the perceived need to

If you know about a new technology or some other tool that can help a friend or colleague, don't hesitate to tell them. If your friend resists, but you KNOW it can help them, do whatever it takes to make sure they get the picture – especially if it's free! I sometimes think people are

Last weekend my wife, some friends, some family and I went to the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox minor league team) baseball game, as Lowell.com sponsored the Spinners game vs. the Brooklyn Cyclones (NY Mets minor league team). I wanted to share this (at Chef Patrick's suggestion) to illustrate how online Internet marketing can lead

I've often compared running our newsletter to being on the front-lines of the domain industry.
It's really quite intensive. We look at thousands of submissions every day and get hammered with replies from our users, both positive and negative.
To run it is to have your finger on the pulse of things.
Over the last couple of weeks
A little outside the world of pure domaining, but as another example of how trademark owners are continuing to press for greater protection for their brands and expanding those they are trying to hold responsible for infringement, comes the news that a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California found
Today at NameJet.com, the second of its 9 days of .cm auctions, the .cm domains we tracked sold for almost $115K.
