During all my years in the business world I always try to look back at fundamentals, with an approach of ?Take nothing for granted?, and ?Question everything?. While I?ve never compiled a list, here are some of the more important lessons I have learned, and live by (in no specific order):
1. Invest in yourself

One of my old sites, or at least a page from one of my old sites has caused me some embarrassment during the past week.
Caught?completely by surprise, I've taken three telephone calls from people wanting to sell commercial properties.
I thought I'd removed all of the sites and pages I'd posted about acquiring commercial property, but...
A New York Times report says ad revenues for popular blogs soared in the first half of 2009 while their old media counterpart - magazines - saw their ad sales plummet 21%. Elsewhere, the .biz extension got a nice boost when a major company announced plans to launch a big new ecommerce site on O.biz.
Intuit, Inc agrees to purchase personal finance website and domain name Mint.com for $170 million. Intuit, Inc. products include QuickBooks, TurboTax and Quicken.
Mint.com is a free service that allows consumers to track their expenses and investments. The site was launched approximately two years ago. The start-up's founder and CEO, Aaron Patzer, ...
The new forum is not just dedicated to Parked/WhyPark information, it's a lot more. The forum consists of domain names for sale, appraisals, conferences, marketplace, general discussions and more.
I really like that the forum is only open to Parked/WhyPark customers. This avoids a forum member from signing up with false information, reducing spam. ...
There will always be domains in your portfolio that could perform better if moved to a different parking service. Identifying these domains is complicated, time consuming and even the process of moving domains itself can be painful. A lot of us tend to shy away from moving to different parking services simply because it would
Overstock wins RFP for single letter .biz domain name.
In the first material sign that the release of one and two character .biz domain names could be a boon for the .biz top level domain, Overstock.com has won the RFP for the O.biz domain name. The company will launch a B2B site for businesses to
Hedonism Resorts lose domain dispute.
Let's face it, domain name disputes aren't sexy (save for DeepThroat.com). But talk of hedonism might make one more interesting.
VRL International Ltd. and International Lifestyles, Inc., which operate the famous Hedonism Resorts and act as the exclusive travel agent for the resorts, respectively, have lost a ...
Domains at Moniker can be transferred quickly with direct and automatic fulfillment.
I often hear grumblings about how Moniker requires you to have domains registered with them in order to submit them to auction. (It's not a requirement for the big auctions, but there is an added charge if you don't and the domain sells.)
Lawyers say investigation against Moniker has been long-running.
For the record, I have no idea if any of the allegations in Transamerica's lawsuit against Moniker are true. But I do know that its lawyers bungled the first complaint they filed. It was rife with many "gotchas" that could be proven false with cursory investigation.
So...
Hyphenated domain sale is a shocker.
Sedo has brokered the sale of Hotel-Reservation.com for a shocking 142,800 EUR, or about $208,000 USD at today's exchange rate. This is certainly one of the most expensive hyphenated domain name purchases of all time. With nearly 700,000 global searches monthly for this term on Google (and 25

Overstock.com has announced that they are working with the registry for .biz (Neustar) domain names and launching the 1 letter domain name O.biz . The new site will focus on small businesses and offer big discounts but will be very similar to Overstock.com .
I am not sure how the registry decided to "skip" auctioning off
Since the purchase and July 1, 2009 launch of the Candy.com website, the domain name has been gaining ground to a Page 1 listing in the major search engines for the popular search term Candy.
On Aug 12th 2009 I had reported that Candy.com ranked #2 on Page #4 for the search term candy. As of
In 2008 when I was first starting to play around with affiliate marketing I had ran into ClickBank.com and started promoting some products and services. I had sold a couple things but then lost interest in the service.
I did get a paper check for around $30 and then had a couple smaller sales after that
Recently there have been numerous reports about all sorts of domain scams and high profile domain thefts by fraudsters and scammers.
Hackers and other criminal minds manage to steal domains and then barefacedly try to sell them in the domain aftermarket.
This sort of thing can be very horrendous to the victim (domain owner) but the domain
This morning, Overstock.com announced that it will be going live with the website O.biz on October 31,2009. The new site will sell mostly restaurant, office, and hotel products, with a focus on small businesses and consumers looking to buy in bulk at greater discounts than are found on the Overstock.com website.
Some people might ask why

As I reported a little over two weeks ago, ESPN has jumped into hyper local sports news, with its ESPN Boston offering. From a domain investor's point of view, I think ESPN was smart to buy and market ESPNBoston.com, even though it's forwarded to ESPN.Go.com/Boston. Obviously the marketed domain name is much easier to remember

There is no question that certain domain names I own shouldn't be developed by me. Purely and simply, they are domain investments, and the goal is to eventually sell them to an entity that does want to develop them.
Some domain names I shouldn't develop are in highly competitive verticals, and it would be virtually impossible
