Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Who watches the watchmen? When a vice president of a corporation who is supposed to be in charge of security processes violates the trust of clients, who is watching upon him?
Nelson "Halvarez" Brady is not necessarily a bad person. In fact, most people who met him or otherwise engaged in business relationships...
Over the past few years, I have been involved in purchasing high level generic domains. Some of those domains were bought through auctions at Snapnames. When I heard yesterday that a former employee was doing sham bidding, I was in shock. I always had high regards for the company, which I could not say for the other major drop player at the time. T...

Okay, while my title might exaggerate a tad bit when I say micro niche websites are the biggest hype ever, but they are continuing to gain popularity, especially in the domaining and forum community. For those of you who don't know what a micro niche website is, you can call it a website that is
The more we find out about the SnapNames employee shill bidding, the seedier it gets.

Domain name renewal scam resurfaces.
A domain renewal "scam" that I first wrote about in 2007 has surfaced again.
The e-mail scam comes from an outfit calling itself ISP renewal aka Domain Renewal, and informs you that your domain name is expiring. The company misleads domain registrants to think they need to renew their domain through...

SnapNames.com had a very trying Wednesday to say the least with breaking the news about the alleged insider shill bidder Nelson Brady. I think it was the right thing for SnapNames to do. They could of kept quiet but they didn't.
Since the news broke yesterday and it was big news, it also happened to take
I often get BS domain renewal notifications via snail mail trying to get me to renew my domain name with a company other than my domain names registrar. Yesterday I got an email from "ISP Renewal Internet Services" using the domain name DomainRenewal-Online.org .

We all register head shaking domain names. Sometimes it comes after a few drinks, and sometimes we just have no clue about where the idea to register a particular domain name came from. The only thing we know is that the domain name will not be renewed upon expiration!

I read an interesting letter from John Mauldin today called Catching Argentinian Disease that?focuses on the risk of hyperinflation in the United States. Much of the letter quotes Niall Ferguson's recent book, The Ascent of Money, which I have not read. However, Mauldin makes some interesting arguments about the risk of our economy running into Rea...

In the early days Nelson basically ran his entire business off my first domain board. He was popular and had a lot of friends. I can’t imagine how they feel. Adam Strong gave a taste of what that must be like. Betr...

Having a day to reflect on the revelation about the Snapnames bidding scandal, I put together a list of the 5 most surprising things we learned yesterday:
1.? Who It Was:
The most surprising part of the story was the identity of the person involved in shill bidding, Nelson Brady.
Not only was Nelson an employee of Oversee,
Just stumbled upon this interesting article about Frank Schilling's Name Administration from Allen's E-Commerce Blog in December 2008. It starts: "Frank Schilling has been pushing forward for change… Well, within his own portfolio at least. It consists of 100,000’s of domains as if you didn’t already know and is one of the best collections of domai...
If they only listened to Frankie in May 2007:"It's official, Snapnames has been acquired by Los Angeles based Oversee .. And while it may seem like the rumored 25mm sale was struck, purely on the EBITDA that Snapnames.com generates, I have a hunch this is all about what can be done with the industry’s leading automated auction platform and clearin...
I've talked about the opportunity for dotMOBI to build brands via Carvetising. Now Springwise reports that Carvertising has been around for years—both the kind focused on rental cars, which we've covered several times, and the kind that lets sellsumers earn a little extra cash wrapping their own cars in ads.
