Today in the Lowdown at DNJournal.com, some background on our new Cover Story about Dan Warner, plus concerns about how a proposed ICANN policy could harm aftermarket sales and our take on a newspaper story that says .mobi has at least one foot in the grave.
Within the past couple of weeks Moniker reported the sale of Slots.com for an estimated $5,500,000. I say estimated because legal and escrow fees were not calculated into the sales price. One thing that was unclear to the public is who the buyer was. This morning Bodog brand released a press release letting the world
In less than 4 1/2 hours the extended iGaming Auction from Moniker/Snapnames will end. So far 12 of the 612 domain names have received bids, including a $15,500 USD bid for slots.asia and $5,250 USD for betting.me confirming that bidders are willing to pay for the right keywords independently of the TLD. Many of the
As already rumored by Stephane von Gelder yesterday, ICANN has just published the fourth version of the New gTLD Applicant Guidebook amongst a number of other documents released over the weekend.
The release is supposed to give potential applicants and other stakeholders time to review the guidebook before the 38th ICANN meeting to be held in
Popular online poker brand is buyer of Slots.com.
Bodog Brand, owner and licensor of the Bodog gambling brand, has announced that it was the mystery buyer of Slots.com last month, and that it paid a bit more than previously reported. In a press release, the company announced that it paid GBP 4,000,000 for the domain,
Information overload hits over Memorial Day weekend.
Maybe it was because this weekend was the end of the month. Or perhaps it was to meet deadlines for the upcoming ICANN conference. Regardless, ICANN chose a U.S. holiday weekend to release a number of very important documents.

Advocacy groups will have open season on new top level domain name applications.
On page 1-6 of the fourth draft applicant guidebook for new top level domain names, ICANN has moved its language regarding a comment periods. I hadn't really paid attention to it before. Essentially, once applications for new top level domains (such
So much for .zimbabwe.
The latest version of the draft applicant guidebook for new top level domain names prohibits country names (e.g. .mexico) from being registered.

Thomas Umstattd Jr. submitted this "permanently good URL" that he came across in a Host Gator forum. Apparently this guy did it for $2k and a trip to Vegas. As I told Thomas this can be classified under "Bad Decision, Good URL."
This one I nabbed myself off the boob tube. Great trackable URL for DR TV. And nice use of alternating fonts and Leading Caps to make this URL quite legible. They really max out their placement here, bringing clarity to the URL. Not much free advice I can offer them.
Peter Askew is back with SkewURL #40. I'll overlook the spacing issues here because the letters are close together enough (not to mention it helps separate the 2 s's) and the Leading Caps make it clear it's an URL. She might know everything you need to know about health & wellness, but she doesn't know good URL tactics." While I applaud the pun, I don't agree with the assessment. I think the Alternating Fonts makes it clear what the 2 w...
