Trademark fight over new TLDs continues to brew. I've written numerous times about new TLD applicants filing trademark applications for TLDs in an attempt to get a leg up on getting approval for their TLD application and fighting off competitors. In general, you can't trademark a top level domain in the U.S. But other countries
Group says new TLDs aren't meant for single brands that don't offer second level domains to the public. One of the understood use cases for new top level domain names is a company creating .brand. Canon has already expressed its intentions to apply for .canon. But in comments by Japan Network Information Center, which provides

Over the past 24 hours I've personally received emails and private messages from people asking about .co. It seems everyone is asking one of two questions: Question 1 – Am I buying .co ? Question 2 – Should they buy .co ? Instead of replying to everyone individually, I thought I'd post this. Answer 1

The opening up of the .co domain extension yesterday has prompted many blog postings and comments, and posts in domain forums. From what I've seen, quite a few people have regged one or a handful of .co's that are good quality keywords to them, or words that have special meanings to them (first name, existing business, familiar lo...
SnapNames.com held another Showcase domain name auction which ended yesterday (7/20/2010) and the theme this time around was "Shopping and eCommerce". These type of domain names are normally some properties!

I was just alerted about another "appraisal" type domain name scam going around and this time the domain name being used is TheNamePros.com . The email address used was fletcher@thenamepros.com and the name of the person as Alan Fletcher. The company name Name Professional Investment & Consulting LLC is also used.

I've covered the .CO launch pretty extensively, but I continue to field emails and some phone calls asking for advice, so I want to share a little bit of additional insight from a personal standpoint to answer any lingering questions.
As you're aware, I was awarded a .CO domain name, which I hope to reveal this

One of the neat things about owning domain names with websites that get a good amount of traffic is the ability to analyze traffic data, especially the traffic that comes from search engines. Google Analytics is a great tool to see what information people are searching for in Google and Yahoo, and where they visit

This blog has been on hiatus for awhile as I have had to come to grips with the fact that I simply cannot accomplish everything I'd like to do all by myself. My ambitions are too great and my time and resources are too short to continue to go it alone. That realization and recent happenings have brought my attention back to the idea and potential b...

Since my last post was popular and seemed to open up the eyes of many domain owners on how to monetize websites outside of Adsense or parking a page lets get down to backlinks.
The number of backlinks to a site from trusted and relevant sites gives great weight to a websites organic search ranking. For

USA Today notes, the statistics only get
I asked three smart domainers how would you all answer this comment I get all the time from newbie's that think you guys were in the right place at the right time and got lucky. They claim that if you had 5k to spend today you'd be just another average domainer. Mike Berkens responds:These guys are operating under a faulty assumption that we all go...
A friend of mine who shares my passion for food and whose recommendations always deliver A Plus sent his social list this Yelp review which in turn they sent on to their lists. As a web developer, I come across many domainers who have the same basic
misinformed view of what web development can actually do:
"I have hundreds of domains which receive $50 a day total with PPC. If I can
develop these names to be spiderable by search engines, therefore increasing my
unique visitors, I can greatly increase my revenue!&qu...
Well I thought today would be an appropriate day for this post – why people love to hate .CO. While I'm a fan of .CO myself, I'm looking at it from the eyes of a domain developer – someone who buys domains to develop and monetize. With the .CO launch yesterday the blog and Twitter
I have been a big fan of the Domain Masters radio show on WebMasterRadio.fm for some time now. I was on the show last year and have really enjoyed tuning in to Victor each week. Victor has done over 100 episodes of the show and is now passing the torch to Chef Patrick. Today is

.CO TLD Domain DevelopmentThe .CO sunrise and landrush has generated a tremendous amount of interest.?? One of the main challenges for past TLD launches has been the anemic level of actual development, which ultimately resulted in the irrelevance of the TLD — .ws, cc, .mx,? .whocares??? Did I catch your attention with this strange way of writing Rick Latona's name? I should have, because although "Ryck Latowna" sounds a lot like "Rick Latona", it surely looks way out of place. Rick would never write his name as "Ryck Latowna". In the same sense, you'd never confuse Richard Svartz – a graphic...
We'd like to welcome the .CO Registry as a brand new sponsor here at DomainGang.
