There's been a fair of talk this week about Google placing less emphasis on domain names in its natural search results and the detrimental affect this might have on domainers and their income. The same discussions have actually been going on for years and in that time, I can't see that the facts have changed
I get a lot of spammy emails from people who are trying to sell me things I don't need. One particular email I get often is from companies who claim that someone is trying to register domain names in Asian ccTLDs that could infringe upon my "trademark" since the registrations are for a domain name

It's search volume on the old tool is 368,000 local exact (august 2010) but it's search volume on the new tool is 135,000. I understand this is because the new tool is based on averages.
