As a domain investor I follow a simple mantra: buy low, sell high. The question is, what exactly is that "low" that will eventually determine the "high" price and how does one determine that? When evaluating the potential of a domain to be acquired, I consider its TLD, keyword, age, positive meaning and Google results
My expired domain watchlist for Wednesday, January 25th. PoorCreditFinancing.com looks like an obvious choice to me. The stats aren't as good as you'd think but it's a solid name in my opinion.
This list has a lot of good sounding names without the metrics to back them up. No big search volume EMD's in today's list.
Last week a half dozen ccTLDs and a pair of non .com gTLDs earned placed on DN Journal's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart.. This week they did a complete switch with the non .com gTLDs taking six places while the country codes had to settle for two. One constant was the .coms who again took the most chart entries.
The following 44 domain names are available to bid on at the Godaddy auctions at the time of writing this. All names are linked to the Godaddy auction bid screen for quick access. I have tried to confirm all PRs to make sure they are not fake but you still have to do your own
Sedo today announced an exclusive auction of premium .ME domain names. The company has successfully brokered the sale of more than 1,000 .ME domain names, totaling nearly two million U.S. dollars, including such premier names as Business.Me for €40,000, and online meeting platform Join.Me for $45,000. Global brands such as WordPress (wp.me), Facebo...
A big retailer makes a small domain purchase. Electronics retailer Best Buy is the biggest name on this week's end user domain sales report. The company paid $2,588 for PhoneFreedom.com through Sedo. This domain is intuitive for one of the largest mobile phone sellers. The rest of this week's end user domain sales took place
I've made plenty of commotion about companies filing for trademarks on future top level domain names. It always seems that they're successfully pulling a fast one on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. But after an exhaustive analysis of 115 trademark applications, I've actually found that the U.S.P.T.O. is mostly on top of things when...
Company considering what to do with its domain name portfolio. Marchex is often cited as starting a wave of acquisitions of domain portfolios when it announced the purchase of Ultimate Search from Yun Ye in 2004 for $164 million. Now it is looking at "strategic alternatives" for its domain name portfolio. From a press release
Less than 11 hours left, some very nice domains such as Gentler.com (No Reserve), Soulmates.com (

This week's .ca TBR domain drop was a whopper! The total number of dropped domains was in the neighborhood of 7,000. Out of these, 238 domains were grabbed.
An interesting sidenote, I noticed that the domain facetime.ca was dropped and picked up this week. When my kids first got their ipods, one of the things they did a lot wit...
If you were to do a search on Google.com for google keyword tool, which is a pretty popular search term… I was pretty surprised to see two domain names that contain the trademarked word "google" and they rank in the top 5 for the search term! GoogleKeywordTool.com ranks in the natural #3 position. IMO, the
Sedo will be holding another .ME auction from February 2, 2012 through February 9, 2012. Like the last auction, this auction will include a wide selection of .ME Registry-owned domain names at a variety of price points. There are a ton of solid keyword domain names included, although I don't know how helpful the .ME
A little over a week ago, I expressed my dismay that Bari Meyerson no longer works as my Account Executive at Moniker. Today, I want to share some reasons why having an Account Executive or Account Representative at a domain registrar is important to me. Obviously we all put a lot of trust into our
I saw an article on Business Insider with a link to a page within your Google account where you can see what information Google believes it knows about you based on your browsing habits. Topics they monitor include things like news preferences, topics of interest, and demographics. Based on this information the company collects, they can
It’s time to analyze a buzzword that seems to pop up all over the Internet these days. Conversion. What is conversion and why does it matter? Simply put, an online conversion occurs when a website visitor does what you want … Continue reading →
Forbes.com just covered the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, ) (ACTA) which is an Agreement or treaty if you will, which contains some provisions "which are similar to – and more expansive than – anything we saw in SOPA."
The ACTA is being treated as by the US as an Executive Agreement rather than a treaty. A treaty would have to be approved b...
Once again I find myself in the Melbourne, Australia Qantas club about to board QF93 to LA and DomainFest. It's getting to be a bit of a strange feeling as I greet some of my now good friends at the reception desk and they say comments like, "It's good to see you again Michael". Hmmmmm......maybe I've been flying a little too much!
Despite the fami...
I got a very nice email early last week from someone who had discovered my blog and wanted to get started investing in domains. He had read some of the articles that I had written about not rushing in and taking time to learn the business and wanted to hop on a call to discuss
I am unbelievably excited to announce that DomainInvesting.tv, a dream that started over two years ago, has now become a reality! The final version of our first episode was finished this week and I will be bringing it live on DomainInvesting.tv tomorrow and onto the iTunes store in early February! Since all of you have
Oops. Forgot to hit "publish" so a little late. So happy to see Apple blow away the numbers. I make a lot of economic predictions and invest my money accordingly. I've made a ton of wrong calls but I sticking to my guns in Apple over the last 10 years has more than made up
If any of you have an extra $13, a guy over at Reddit needs a few extra dollars to renew a domain name. He's a little short and could pay you back next month or so. He'd really appreciate it. The details are below. On a side note, I was wondering if I could borrow
Very interesting article today over at a Vietnam based website describing a situation that I have well documented as one of my biggest pet-peeves. Apparently the Vietnamese are simply behind the times (according to the article, not me) when it comes to registering domain names that correlate with real estate development projects, company entities, ...

A post from yesterday regarding the listing of almost 500 "facebook" domains on TDNAM caused some serious stir. It seems that not everyone agrees about a listing venue's responsibility regarding the trading of trademark-infringing domains. Such venues include GoDaddy's TDNAM, eBay, Flippa.com and others. Sedo and Afternic are known to pro-actively ...
Rick Schwartz has been quiet lately, having ‘retired' from regular domain blogging; but don't think for a second that the Domain King is resting on his laurels. A new, improved "round robin" introduction is planned for TRAFFIC 2012, in Ft. Lauderdale. "We have some surprises for everyone who's attending TRAFFIC, rest assured!", said Howard Ne...
Domain registrar eNom rolled out their new web site today; stepping away from the cheesy "Backpack Girl" visuals of the past decade. The changes vastly improve the navigation flow and the clarity of the services offered; a giant leap ahead of the clutter that rules other domain registrar web sites such as GoDaddy. It seems
This week sees the start of the Chinese or Lunar New Year with 2012 being a "most auspicious" year of the dragon. There's no denying that China remains an economic juggernaut and despite the uncertain global economic outlook, growth is...
