Not really a domain name story, but I was sitting in a sports bar for lunch today and noticed something pretty dramatic on the live broadcast of the Gatorade Duel races in Daytona. I'm no race fan but just as I looked up the pack of cars was coming around a turn after a previous
According to a release on the website of the European Banking Authority (EBA), the organization calls ICANN to reconsider plans to allow .fin and .bank gTLDs and is asking ICANN to ban the establishment of financial services gTLDs alltogether. Don't lose my domains, give them to me cheap, and be there to help. We're going to kick off the results from this year's Domain Name Wire survey with a look at which factors drive people to select their domain registrar. About 1,500 people ranked seven separate factors, and the results were the exact same
GoDaddy dominant, especially with larger domain registrars. 1,164 people answered the question "Which domain registrar do you think is best overall" on the 7th annual Domain Name Wire survey. Safer link clicking. Microsoft has filed a patent application for safer URL shortening, and the patent application actually uses the term "rick-rolling". The application was filed in 2010 but just published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today. A big problem with shortened URLs is that you typically don't know where they'll take you...

Danica Patrick is sponsored by the largest domain name registrar in the world, GoDaddy.com. So I wanted to see if "domains" were a perk of the sponsorship? The easy answer is not likely but it may appear some guidance likely happens from time to time. Here are some domain names that I was able to
Domain investors and speculators will always register and buy domains with new TLDs (domain extensions such as .com, .net, and .biz) with the hope of making huge profits. The prospect of registering a domain name for anything between $7 and $100 only to later sell back sometime in the future for 4, 5 or even
You are probably aware that Social.com was sold in 2011 for $2,600,000 in a deal co-brokered by Moniker and Marksmen. Fusible reported that SalesForce.com acquired Social.com. I just learned that the owner of Social.org has put his domain name up for auction at NameJet at no reserve. There are 25+ days remaining until a three day
Have you ever wondered who the anonymous people are that write hateful comments on blogs and websites around the Internet? While I've been able to identify a few based on IP addresses and other sources, I've never really had the desire to actually track them down personally or even let them know I know who
From Shannon in Dev: In the spirit of the MARS group, I thought I'd send out a photo of some things we value at Name.com. 1) Puppies in sombreros 2) Beer Little hairy audacious goal.
A few days ago we wrote about and compared the price and increase in value of Taxi Medallions to domain names.
Today I read a story about another commodity-collectable that sold originally for just a few dollars that fetched over $3,500,000 at auction.
Foxnews.com tells the story about a recent auction of Comic Books selling for a total of $3.5 Mil...

In a one panel decision issued today a the domain name FCM.com was handed over to the previous owner of the domain name.
Its an interesting decision because other panels have refused to allow the UDRP system to recover domain names that were allegedly stolen.
In this case its not even clear that the complainant had a trademark on the term FCM.
Here...

I’ve always said that the best way to learn is from your own mistakes, or others mistakes if they are willing to share them with you. Last year I made some nice end-user sales, and also lost some great potential sales due to mistakes I could have avoided. Still, I’m glad I made those mistakes
This has been one of the hottest topics in the SEO world for some time now, how does being listed in DMOZ impact your rank in Google. There are rumors that a single DMOZ link could propel your site onto the first page of Google, if only life was this easy. DMOZ is a great
Good Morning. Not sure if any of you have any domains at the Great Domains auction that ends today. I tried my best to find domains to put on my list but it's pretty hard to go through a list when the ajax code is jacked up. Don't know if anyone had trouble with auctions besides me but fortunately the people that had sponsored listings with me h...
I was hand registering a domain name last night and realized I hadn't shared any of my recent domain purchases. As I stated earlier I'm starting to concentrate on buying names for resale or plant and landscape names. I haven't purchased any high priced names if only because I haven't found a name and a price that fit my needs. In the meantime her...

While doing some research this morning I came across a post from Elliot's Blog about marketing domains at trade shows. ICANN's new generic top-level domains Applicant Guidebook may be modified to make it clear that the International Olympic Committee can apply for .olympic if it wants to. Somebody has just paid out $2,500 for the domain name domaintools.co, according to Sedo. I guess not even the most savvy domain name industry companies are immune to typosquatting. Given that price is just below what you might expect to pay for a cheap UDRP complaint, but more than the domain is probably worth alone,
