Domain Discoveries: Ford, Under Armour And More

Here are some more silent domain discovery movers that likely wouldn’t be discovered without doing a fair amount of digging. These are domain movers of some large companies and here is what I found out.

Under Armour Inc.

Likely purchased the domain name ConnectedFitness.com via Snapnames with the help from MarkMonitor. UA recently launched The Connected Fitness Innovation Challenge, which asks innovators to submit concepts for the next generation of game-changing digital experiences, through apps and wearable technology, while utilizing the MapMyFitness™ software. $50K grand prize, with additional $150K for investment is available.

ConnectedFitness.com currently just redirects to UnderArmour.com and nothing directly about the challenge (hello). Instead, Under Armour is using the sub-domain ideas.underarmour.com which redirects to another site, uaideas.force.com which they are using Force.com to manage it. Why make it so hard for people to find? That’ why you purchased the domain in the first place…

Footlocker Inc.

Hand registered the domain name TheDrop365.com . I wasn’t able to dig up any further information as to what this domains future holds other than the domain is forwarding to ChampsSports.com blog, called “The Drop”. So that was likely the reason behind the purchase.

Ford

FordDealer.com was hosted on the ford.com DNS, but the domain was transferred to GoDaddy and switched to a generic GoDaddy DNS. The domain now is on the IP address for Marketing Associates LLC, a
Detroit based marketing company. Marketing Associates does marketing for Ford and P&G from what I found. I would assume they are going to be working on a new campaign and using FordDealer.com . Right now, the domain does resolve (delayed resolve) to DealerConnection.com, a Ford domain.

Microsoft

It appears that Microsoft owns the domain BillGates.org and that domain has been transferred into the new Google Domains.

Hilton

Hilton hotel is back with another make sense hand registered domain name, this time registering the domain SelectMyRoom.com

Just Eat Holdings Limited

Hand registered the domain name: RestHappiness.com . Just Eat is a takeaway food delivery service with revenue of $96.8 Million Pounds in 2013.

Allergan, Inc

A Pharmaceutical company who owns over 4,000 domains appears to be getting ready to launch a new site on HeadacheDisorders.com . The domain has been registered since 2005 and it was likely purchased from BuyDomains.com recently on 5/3/2014 for $1,500.

Vocalpoint.com

This one is a little interesting and is fitting with what happened recently with Tremor. It appears that P&G is moving some stuff around. P&G owns Tremor and also appears to own Vocalpoint.com . Vocalpoint.com is undergoing a site redesign and the domain has been transferred to GoDaddy. The whois shows MKTG Inc. as the owners of Vocalpoint, but from what I can tell, P&G owns MKTG.com / MKTG Inc, which is a marketing company.

MegaJackpot.com

This is an interesting one… and one that should be taken with a grain of salt. I no longer have DomainTools whois history access, which greatly helps me in digging info… so doing some random checks, this is the data I was able to dig up on this one:

MegaJackpot.com a domain name which sold for $10,505 at GoDaddy Auctions around May 2013 transferred out of CSC Corporate Domains… to PSI-USA. This is interesting to me, because I think it shows that CSC might be buying expired domains at GoDaddy!

MegaJackpot.com transferred into CSC on 12/10/2013 so clearly the domain could have been “sold” between May and December to CSC on-behalf of a clinet, but this is hard to pin point! Also to note, Marchex sold MegaJackpot.com in the 2008-2012 time frame for $15,385. So this also says that the domain expired and sold for about $5,000 less. It is likely the $15K buyer let it expire for whatever reason…

That is all I have for you today! Thanks for stopping in and seeing my discoveries at DotWeekly.com!

  1. Thanks for sharing. Always helpful in some way. MegaJackpot story is interesting. The previous owner let the domain drop and was bought for $15k. Plenty of money to waste.
