A 6-Figure Chinese .Com Sale and a Powerful ccTLD Performance Light Up This Week's Domain Sales Chart

Editor's Note: This double length column covering the past two weeks worth of reported domain sales (coupled with the double-length report we posted July 11) will bring you fully up to date to on all sales reported during and after my recently concluded anniversary/vacation break. From this point forward we will be back on our usual weekly schedule with a new sales column coming out every Wednesday evening.

The past two weeks of domain sales were highlighted by a big Chinese entree with a lot of ccTLD seasoning! Our latest chart topper was yet another sizeable Chinese .com sale - Zhuanxue.com
("transfer" in Chinese pinyin) - at a cool 1,180,000 CNY, which equals $190,098 at today's exchange rate.

Luo Cheng, chairman of the influential 360 Education Group announced the purchase on Weibo.com where it came to the attention of our China correspondent, George Hong of Guta.com. Approximately 150,000 Chinese students study overseas each year and 360 has built a solid business around that transfer market.

The next two spots on this week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart were filled by solid .com sales at Sedo where #2 Satoshi.com changed hands for $75,000 and #3 CIN.com commanded $55,000.

The ccTLDs then took center stage with 4.cn selling #4 MaiMai.cn ("buy/sell" or "trade" in Chinese pinyin) for Viet Nguyen at $50,000. Sedo put another country code domain in the 5th spot with Autoankauf.de ("car purchase" in English) going for €36,000 ( $48,600). The ccTLDs went on to pile up eight chart entries with the category posting 11 five-figure sales overall. Sedo rang up all but two of those. One of the exceptions was #18 Sökmotoroptimering.se ("search engine optimization" in Swedish), an IDN that Philip Blomsterberg acquired for $14,892 in a private transaction.

The non .com gTLDs were limited to two chart entries - #10 Movie.info ($24,626 at Flippa.com) and #13 English.club at $17,500 via Sedo. Sedo piled up 11 chart entries overall to lead all venues. NameJet also had a good outing with four charted sales, led by #6 XCW.com at $30,100 and #7 MobileLoans.com at $30,099. Those sales helped the .coms take 10 of the 20 chart entries. TopNames.org also contributed to the .com effort with their $30,000 sale of #8 GPV.com.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, July 13:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

Country Codes

As I noted at the top of this report the ccTLDs had a very productive fortnight piling up 11 five-figure sales with MaiMai.cn setting the pace at $50,000 to lead our Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. All of those five-figure sales were noted in the all extension section above so the highest sale from this group that you haven't seen yet is #12 Kongresshalle.de at $9,045 via Sedo.

The next three spots went to a trio of British .co.uk domains. Sedo sold Denwa.co.uk for $8,978 and WebAnalytics.co.uk for $7,695 while DomainLore.co.uk unloaded MovingBoxes.co.uk for $7,182

Sedo easily won the race among venues with 14 chart entries, however Golem.eu also scored with two domains that tied for #16 - Glow.be and Herzblut.at - at $6,379 apiece. NetFleet.com.au also got on the board with #20 FruitBox.com.au at $5,268.

Germany's .de won the extension race with five chart entries. Only one other TLD has multiple entries, Britain's .co.uk with three. Here is how the country code sales stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, July 13:

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values.

Every Wednesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Mondays and Tuesdays our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this article to give you the most comprehensive sales report in the industry.

Editor's Note: If you wish to review previous Domain Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
