Operation Valkyrie: 70 years ago

You can rest assured that Hollywood studios take hold of important, historic domain names, and hide them in obscurity.

Disney did it with PearlHarbor.com, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios did the same with OperationValkyrie.com.

Today is the 70th anniversary of a major turn in World War II history: the day of Hitler’s assassination attempt, by an elite core of German officers.

Operation Valkyrie was executed on July 20th, 1944 and while it failed in its objective due to the German dictator’s sheer luck, it sent a strong message with its sacrifice, that the war would soon be over. Hitler’s assassination attempt was carried out by Lieutenant Colonel Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios turned this historic event into a movie in 2008, locking down the domain name OperationValkyrie.com in the process. It’s really a shame that the exact match domain is destined to remain undeveloped, serving the interests of movie makers.
