Freebies and deep discounts add up to a big figure.
The .XYZ domain name now has over 400,000 registrations, according to zone file reports.
Of course, the majority of these registrations were given away free to Network Solutions customers on an opt-out basis.
nTLDStats.com shows that about 353,000 .xyz domain names were registered at Network Solutions. If it charged full price, then you’d expect it to have maybe 1,000 registrations.
The second place registrar for .xyz is GMO Internet, Inc. aka Onamae.com. It is offering .xyz domain names for about $1.75 USD.
Taking a look at other registrars, it appears about 25,000 registrations are regular-price (or at least higher-priced) registrations. That’s not bad by any means; that would place the extension among the top 15 new TLDs released so far.

ANyone can give away a million domains for free,, come on as our industry is being diluted with fake numbers and illegal pushing of domains that is only going to turn around and bite everyone. When crap like this is happening and people pushing names into ones account, news stories will pick it up and while good for .xyz, web.com stock will get hit.. Why risk pushing a shitty url into peoples account and fake numbers for free press.. come on,, tired of hearing about this scam, and yes its a scam.

I was given what they call a reward, a free xyz name, I didn’t want it, and I replied to the email, and said no, it bounced back as an auto box. I didn’t have my Netsol account info handy, so by the time I got around to logging back in, it was there, now I cannot find how to delete it. I have wasted 30 minutes of precious life with xyz crap. That guy with the grin who launched this is ruining domains. Guys like Berkens might call him smart, but he is an absolute fool for what he is doing. I do not know of auto renewal is set, I just want it gone. Netsol cs sucks!

Please stop rewarding this publicity stunt by publishing these “milestones”.
Extensions that inflate their numbers should be listed by best estimate of paid, normal price registrations.
Brood Vogels says
Does anyone know if these .XYZ domain names are on automatic renewal? If so, then that will be when the .XYZ registry will make loads of money
Andrew Allemann says
They are not on automatic renewal.

Because if they were, then it would also be the moment there would be a major lawsuit in action as 300,000+ (potential) individuals turn their eyes towards compensation

Get out of Net Sol as fast as you can!

Only in the domain world such cooking of the numbers are rewarded as “marketing genius.” Proud to be XYZ free.

These “best-selling” .XYZ domains remind me of another best seller, the book “Bouncing Back” by Alan Partridge. Of course, we’d need to count the copies that were pulped:

.XYZ’s CEO reminds me a bit of AP, come to think of it.
jZ says
we can all look forward to stories next year about .xyz having the worst renewal rates at least.
Joseph Peterson says
Oh, I hope not. I’d love to see the unasked for, unused, and useless .XYZ domains be renewed (at the registry’s expense) in perpetuity.
