Cybersquatting claim among Spokane roofers leads to bitter lawsuit

Two roofing companies from Spokane are involved in a bitter legal battle, after one registered the exact match .com domain of the other.

According to The Spokesman Review, Les Ludtke, owner of Spokane Commercial Roofing, filed a lawsuit against his competitor Jeffrey Sitton, alleging that Sitton “cybersquatted” on SpokaneCommercialRoofing.com, causing his business financial harm.

The domain is currently parked, displaying GoDaddy ads.

The fact is that Mr. Ludtke’s company didn’t register their .com for a good 10 years after being in business.

After finally registering SpokaneCommercialRoofing.com in 2012, he forgot to renew the domain; Jeffrey Sitton picked it up after it dropped and forwarded it to his own company’s web site, SpokaneRoofing.com.

The Spokane roofing rivalry goes back more than 10 years ago, when the two roofing company owners were involved in a non-compete dispute that was settled in 2005.
