DNS Propagation Issue
I changed the IP for an A record in cPanel about 15 hours ago.
Using whatsmydns.net I can see the IP for the A record from 21 DNS servers around the world.
The records seem to be bouncing back and forth between the old IP address and the new IP address though.
I'm not sure why, but it almost seems like the DNS servers are fighting over which IP address is correct, and they keep going back and forth.
For example, from the Istanbul, Turkey, location it shows:
- From 9:45pm to 10:00pm: New IP (correct)
- 10:00 to 10:05: Old IP (incorrect)
- 10:05 to 10:10: New IP
- 10:10 to 10:15: Old IP
- 10:15 to 10:25 (time of writing): New IP
Other locations show similar results, with IPs changing back and forth, but never in any pattern.
Any idea why this would be happening, or ideas for things to check?

I should also add that the same problem is happening with two different A records.
Those two records were there previously, I just updated the IP.
I also created two new A records, with previously unused names. Using whatsmydns.net I can see that about half of the DNS servers show an IP for the new records, and the other half do not show any IP address at all.

It's might be "data catch" problem. Maybe need more time to update.

Do you have more than one DNS server? (cpanel dnsonly as ns2?), perhaps the 2nd DNS server did not update correctly.

It's sure to be something like this. The second DNS server might also be a stealth nameserver. ie. the domain is delegated to a particular set of nameservers (which is where the OP is changing the A records) but those nameservers have NS records pointing to another set of nameservers which haven't been updated. This typically happens after a change of host where the stealth NS records are left pointing to the previous provider.
OP: You could run the domain through a checker (eg. intodns.com) and / or query the nameservers directly with:
Code:nslookup arecord.yourdomain.com ns.yournameserver.com
Code:dig @ns.yournameserver.com arecord.yourdomain.com

Propagation can be a pain, I've seen some hosting providers cache dns entries longer than they should in the past, causing website launches to be launched in all areas except theirs. Google "Is it up or down" - the top listing is a site that lets you see if the website is up or down in multiple locations. Might help you out!

if you do know that you are going to change the dns in next few days, it is always better to reduce TTL first.
