Many registered domains - one host: best solution?

Hi, I'd love to get some opinions from the experts here I'm in need of some advice! Any suggestions what the best way forward would be for me?

    I'll start with the facts:

I have one active website - I registered/bought the domain with the hosting company I bought the plan from.

In addition, I have a few domains I bought/registered with different companies.

Although my current hosting plan will run for almost another year, I decided to buy another hosting plan with a web host in the UK because I keep having speed issues with my site (I'm located in the UK but the site is hosted by a U.S. company).

    My question(s) is/are:

Should I leave the unused domains where they are parked right now? I don't have any immediate plans with them - I just wanted to reserve the domain name. Or should I point them to the nameservers of my new web host? I bought two domains only a few days ago, so I'll have to wait roughly 50+ days until I can take action, right? The other one is 2 years old and I just renewed the domain for another 2 years last May.

I want to know mainly because dozy me must have missed the small print part that I've only seen now in the new host's welcome email, advising me that I "[...] can add as many web sites as [I] wish within [my] hosting plan, for one low monthly fee." Or maybe this refers to existing websites only but not domains? ... I'm a bit fuzzy on the wording here.

What should I do with my active site - leave it at the U.S. host's server (and change nameservers) or better transfer it to the UK web host - especially if I want to resolve aforementioned speed issues?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Connie.

If you are planning on transferring to the new web hosting service, I would point your reserved domains to the new web hosting service, especially once you plan on using them, if on the same account. Domains have essentially what's called a "black out" period, and cannot be transferred within 60 days or less. After the 60 day period, make sure you have the authorization code and that the domain is not locked.

For the wording about adding as many websites, you need to see what the provider offers you with your account. Some hosts will limit the amount of addon/parked/sub domains on plans, so that will tell you how many Domains or Web Sites you can have active. Check with them on that policy, and if the amount of domains exceeds the amount the plan allows, then you will probably have to spend extra.

For your current active website, if you are having speed issues, that could relate to any number of things, so I would do some research first before making the jump right away. Is the website full of images/scripts that are taking long to load? Is there anything in the error logs? Has there been previous issues with the current host in the past? If all else fails, move on over.
