Too Cute! Heritage Auctions Sells Cute.com for Over 200K to Top This Week's Sales Chart

I was away on vacation last week so I have a double dose of domain sales data for you this week that will bring you completely up to date on what has happened in the aftermarket since my last report. The biggest development was Heritage Auctions closing several big sales from their last last domain auction in late July. Five of those filled spots on the upper half of our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, including the chart topper - Cute.com at a cool $230,000.

In another six-figure sale (detailed by Elliot Silver in a blog post at DomainInvesting.com) Koko.com changed hands on the eName.com platform for CNY 620,000, which comes out to $100,440 at today's exchange rate.

Heritage Auctions (HA) filled the #3 hole with DEC.com (one of the first five domain registered on the Internet!) for $57,500. Sedo followed with Cabs.com at $50,000 with HA then rounding out the first five with Bristol.com at $40,250.

By Ron Jackson

The .coms had an even more dominant outing than usual, sweeping 17 of the 20 chart entries. Michael Berkens' MostWantedDomains.com accounted for five of those with a roster led by #10 (tie) CoolCompany.com and FreeATM.com at $25,000 each. The latter domain was bought as an upgrade by company that runs TheFreeATM.com. Flippa.com also contributed to the .com onslaught, selling #16 (tie) VisitRome.com for $16,000.

Two ccTLDs helped prevent the .coms from running the board.  #7 Answers.tv sold for $28,350 while #20 KFZ24.de delivered $14,420, with Sedo handling both of those transactions.

Only one non .com gTLD made the elite list but that was one of the 12 biggest sales made in that category so far this year. Terrestrial Holdings (TH) did the honors by moving 100.org for $26,000. After doing some research, TH owner Theo Develegas said that is the highest 3-number .org sale ever reported, topping 360.org by $500.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, September 28:

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

The non .com gTLD sales produced just one five-figure sale this week but it was a nice one - 100.org at $26,000, which ranks among the dozen biggest sales in this category so far in 2014. The runner up  on this week's Non .Com gTLD Top Sales Chart, Shou.net at $6,000 via Sedo, trailed by $20,000.

Sedo went on to pile up 18 of the 20 chart entries. They rounded out the first five with Uhr.kaufen ($5,292), Losless.audio ($5,000) and Polygon.org ($3,400)

The .orgs easily won the extension race with six chart entries, followed by the .infos with three. The .nets usually lead this group but managed only two chart entries this week as a variety of new gTLDs took places, including a pair of .clubs.
