In Boston, it’s Demoulas vs. Demoulas, in a rivalry between two cousins controlling two super-regional supermarket chains, Market Basket and Demoulas Super Markets.

Arthur T. Demoulas recently scooped up his cousin’s half for $1.5 billion, triggering the interest of domain speculators.

A remarkable note: Demoulas Super Markets has long operated without a website, and at one point, a fan was so frustrated that he built his own site, MyDemoulas.net.

Meanwhile, Steve Weber, a Massachusetts resident that was laid off from his job in October, apparently registered this odd Greek name (pronounced Dee-moo-la’s), Demoulas.com, in 1998 – and yesterday it was payday time.

After negotiations, the PR firm managing Demoulas Super Markets paid $3,850 to Weber for Demoulas.com.

While the registration of company and personal names amounts to cybersquatting, the unemployed domainer will now at least enjoy the Holidays with some extra cash in the bank.
