The value of .host - is it worth it?
What do you think about the .host TLD? A few months ago they opened up the gates for everyone, but no one seems to be using it (yet). It's rather expensive (around $120), and apperently premium names (e.g. fast.host or super.host) are being sold by the company itself for prices ranging from 1 to 15K. The domain also renews at that price.
To me it seems that this whole '.host' TLD is just about making as much money as possible. However, I understand that '.host' could build trust with your customers.
What do you think? Would you ever buy a .host domain name? Do you think it is a good idea to launch a .host host? Do you think your customers would appreciate a .host domain?

It will fail, like most gTLD's. .COM, .NET will always be the first choice for most companies.

.host SHOULD cost 75 - 80 $ Max.
.hosting is much cheaper,20-30 $ but ID Protect is not allowed, at least via Enom.
There are other uses for host/hosting other than webhost.
I don't think they are worth the price, but I am working on one just to see how search engines treat it, on static and dynamic sites. Just to see.
Slow go as I'm sick, plus have other things to do.

I would go for .hosting instead of .host .
Of course, .com will still stay :-)

Just think about yourself explaining to customers "no, it's not .com, it's actually .host". That answers the questions IMO

Type into google:
(your state) host example NY host.
Prehaps there are other uses besides web hosting where it might work.
What do you SEO people think?

.HOST is one of expensive domain name I will never pay for. Sometime we use a full brand name more than insert "dotted" inside

.HOST is not something I would pay for, unless I'm a web hosting giant that has a brand to protect. Then again if that was the case, I'd probably buy all TLDs of my name.

And still, most will go home and try to type CompanyX.host.com... its just the way people are used to and one of the main reasons why many new TLDs are a major fail. Not only most of those TLDs are a total poo (pardon my French), not only they are mostly pretty expensive, but because there are very few ways to market them properly. People, especially those that are already of age, find it harder (or worthless) to change their ways (hence the saying "its hard to teach an old dog new tricks"). Even in the domain forums I visit frequently, the experienced domainers always share experiences of the newer TLDs and they are mostly horror stories of lost money.
I think the thought of becoming a pioneer in any field is what drives people of rushing into anything new. But they fail to understand that just because you were the first to do it doesn't mean that you would do it best and be remembered for it. The experienced are waiting for the initial hype to disperse so they have a base for their choice.
Getting back on track, I don't believe neither .host and .hosting will make any significant impact and they are bound to be forgotten in a few years.██ www.WebHostFace.com where Service always comes with a smiling face!

The new tlds are only valuable for seo. I.e. the domain minecraft.hosting has some value as it will presumably be easier to rank for "minecraft hosting" than a domain like "ultragamehost.com" marketing anything other than a .com is a losing proposition because a huge amount of the word of mouth and repeat visitors are lost to people mistakenly visiting the .com even if you specifically market the .tld.
If you rely on word of mouth, repeat visitors, or brand recognition, the only choice is .com.IOFLOOD.com -- We Love Servers

I agree with, funkywizard. I actually see a trend of .org more so than .host or even .net. A lot of companies are taking advantage of the availability under dot-org. I personally prefer .com and .org to .net or any other TLD unless what I need it for is specific to a location. The rest of them are for SEO and vanity. Nobody needed all these new domain endings.
Do you agree?

I voted for no. I think non tech savvy people might get confused with the new TLDs. Also I believe customers won't pay much attention to TLD so long as the product/service is really good

Personally I think it's good, it's shorter, rememberable, easy to use in SEO (keyword), and there's more of a chance to get a nice name since most .com's are taken. .web would be big as-well.

I agree with this. SEO wise, it's heavenly to have a .host domain name. But I'm sure that not everyone will understand that '.host' is actually a TLD like any other.
It must be very confusing for customers not knowing too much about hosting, that you can now even use 'host' behind the dot instead of 'com' or 'net'. I can't imagine saying to a customer 'go to name dot host' for more info. Or you must include HTTPS or WWW.

I don't think that it will lead to the average user signing up. Everyone knows a .com and is familiar with it, why deviate from the successful model? It sounds like another hurdle you would have to overcome when building your business is already tough.
