I've got some domains listed on Flippa and just recently realized that the listed domains get indexed (shame on me for not realizing this from the beginning). Immediately I started removing a bunch of my names that I don't want to get indexed.

But. No... No!

My names won't get de-indexed but instead stay on Flippa, and SERPs, saying:

"WTFflippa.com IS listed on this-and-that's catalog but has been cancelled."

Well, it is NOT listed on my catalog cuz I just f***** removed it.

Now, I'm not sure if their TOS allows this but it's just absolutely ridiculous on so many levels.

@FlippaDomains is more than welcome to chime in on this. So you're harnessing traffic from MY DOMAINS even if they're not listed on your platform? How is that possible? How on earth do you think it's ok?

From their TOS:

"By launching a listing, you grant Flippa a permanent, irrevocable, and unrestricted license to store and display the details of your listing."

Isn't that great.

I feel like such an idiot right now and I would imagine that so does EVERYONE who wasn't aware of this.

It can be a nuisance for people who wish it to be private.
I know there is a privacy upgrade called: "Private listing" which costs $20.
Quote: "Hide your listing from search engines like Google and the general public."
Not the best solution but it can help on occasion.

Yup but talking about catalog listings.

The meta description in SERPs for one of my deleted domains says:

"Make An Offer *****''.com. is listed in ******'s catalog and is open for offers."

This isn't so. Because I deleted it. Incredible BS.

Looks like I'm mostly alone with my pain. So be it.

Anyway, lesson learned:

ANYONE STUPID ENOUGH TO LIST ON FLIPPA CATALOG, SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO.

Seriously dude. You list your domain ANYWHERE on a public venue: TDNAM, Sedo, eBay etc. Google will index it. Flippa posts domains on its twitter feed as well. Then things get cached. Why blame Flippa for something that common sense dictates?

I don't see the issue here if you actually want to sell the names your listing....

Isn't exposure the key to finding a buyer for your name????

What's the secrecy for??

Well, I believe you're wrong. If you list with Sedo/Afternic without parking it doesn't get indexed, no? Anyway, my problem isn't with the fact that they get indexed (although I don't like it), but the fact that after removing the listing, it stays indexed.

I hear you. Anyway, again, that's not the issue. But the fact that the removed names stay indexed.

It's a bit mind-boggling that some of you defend Flippa's practices, i.e. that they don't remove the listing permanently after a user has removed it from their platform but instead continue to benefit from the possible SE traffic.

Why do you hate people finding your domain names in google though? Isn't it possible for google to update eventually to remove that listing from flippa?

Yes, they should allow some option for permanently removing names especially ones you no longer own, or wish to sell on another platform, or which are just no longer for sale. One downside to listing an auction there is that if it ends at a low price without reserve met, a buyer down the road will likely google the name, see some low amount that the name never sold for and expect a ridiculously low price even though reserve wasn't met. This is the primary reason I hardly list there anymore. On the flip side, there are still offers that come in which otherwise would not happen from people finding the old listings on flippa.. although they are low offers most of the time. But yes, for an incredibly low $20 a piece you too can have privacy for each one of your listings.. that's after you already paid to list the auction.. added a bold title, heck make it premium for an extra $300. You could always let it go for the low $50 offer you'll likely get to help cover the cost of all those fees..

The moment you publicly (emphasis added) list a domain you can't have expectations of privacy. This isn't in defense of Flippa, it's common sense.

This isn't about privacy.

Nope, because Flippa won't let it to get de-indexed.

Which is the only point i'm trying to make.

I absolutely don't have any problems with people finding my names via Google. I just want to them to find them on platforms that I have them listed on.

Listings at Flippa act as placeholders of a domain that was made available for sale, and was sold, or canceled etc. In that sense, it's different from - say - Sedo, however there are several reasons to keep these up. One reason is to verify the track of a sale after it completed, record potential fraud etc.

I have no problems understanding Flippa's motivation to keep everything indexed forever. I simply don't like it. If you're happy with their practices, fine.

In hindsight, admitted, I went a bit overboard here.
