CiLGiN... I can't answer those questions "yet". But the answers to your questions will be coming very soon. Most likely in a couple of weeks. If not a month.

We have been working hard to bring our Drop Catching technology to the public. A new launch is just around the corner! Sorry I don't have definitive answers right now, we are being silent about the new project up until the actual launch.

We are now opening our dropcatching services up to a limited beta test. If you are interested in using NameBright to catch expiring domain names, please PM me with your information, how many domains you backorder a day, your availability to come in and be one of the first users in the system. We are only looking for a few people at this time who are active in the drop on a daily basis. This project has been in development for a very long time and we are excited to take this next step!

Is there more info on this, like pricing? Is this the same system other people have been using through Namebright?

Thanks, we have responded to a handful of PM's and got a few new invites out for NamePros members. We're still working on upgrading the system, so let us know if you find any issues we can look into. (Both for DropCatch.com and for NameBright.com)

Andrew. You've been testing your drop-catching service now for over 1 month. When is the ETA for going live with this service, so that we can all use it.

stub - we're getting very close. We are finishing up back-end things.

If you want an invite it's easy enough at this point as we are now offering invites to those in the domain industry on a more frequent basis. To get in, send an email to the email you see on the front page of DropCatch.com. This is "support" @ the domain name. In that email say you are a NamePros member and you talked to Andrew and want to try out the system. Ideally provide details as to how many domains you backorder a day/week/month. And where you currently backorder your domains.

Thanks for indicating interest.

Andrew

It seems there are some problems in dropcatch.com.

Some pending delete domains can't be backordered if they are not in DropCatch.com database. Also, could DropCatch add a simple filtering system for these pending delete domains?

Thanks

Hello Andrew!

I expected lower price for your domain catching service somewhere in 30$ range but it seems that your are new monopolistic NameJet or Snapnames. I am little disappointed.

It's very expensive to build and operate a drop-catching company that can beat NJ and SN, so anything under $65 is reasonable in my opinion. $20-30 is what Go Daddy charges for backorders, but they never beat NJ or SN. As they say, you get what you pay for.

hippoking - a filtering system is in the works and getting close to launch. I do not have an exact date that feature will be implemented.

As for your question about pending delete domains that can not be backordered, I suspect you might be entering your backorders very close to when the backorder lists are deployed. (5 days before the auction) If this is the case wait a few hours and you will be able to add them to DropCatch.com. I have noted this could be a tiny bug and for someone to look into.

No, the domain i tried to add would be deleted the second day. Obviously if it was not in your pending delete database, we cant backorder.

So i wanna suggest even if the domains are not in the pending delete lists, we can still add them for monitoring.

There was also a small bug when using "bulk backordering" under ipad. Confimation button was lost.

I like everything about DropCatch.com EXCEPT that all backorder auctions are PUBLIC and anyone can bid on the domains.

I understand the reason is to maximize profits, just like any business. But it makes it harder to get good deals because prices get inflated more easily as more people can jump in vs a domain with x set bidders where no one else can jump in. I use them anyways, I would just prefer for auctions to be handled like the other major drop catchers. I think the system is made more for themselves and not really with domainers best interests in mind. For this reason only, I would choose Snap and NJ before DropCatch.

i won't use them for this reason. its not just about getting good deals but what is the point in putting in hours of work to research domains to only have everyone be able to jump on it?

In my experience, the truly good names are always highly competitive at all the auction houses. For the mediocre names, I have no problem winning them as the only bidder even when I backorder them 4 days before they drop.

If you don't backorder a domain that you want at DropCatch and they win the domain, aren't you going to be happy that you still have an opportunity to bid on the domain? :)

In theory, this change seems like a big deal, but in practice, I doubt it will be. Time will tell.

i spend 5-8 hours per day researching dropping domains and have got many great domains with only 2-3 bidders as competition and didn't have to fear about 15 more climbing aboard before the auction ends. well i guess i don't have to bother now, i can just join dropcatch and let others do all the work for me.

How come DropCatch.com doesn't allow you to backorder ORG domains? Are you planning on adding ORG backorders?

It seems you can only backorder COM and NET currently.

What is DropCatch like in 2015?

Adam27, this is probably because ORG is run by PIR and COM/NET are both run by Verisign; signing up with PIR would mean more partner agreements and building out the system to play in a drop with potentially different rules and parameters.

Zombies, not much has changed, IMHO, except the now ~450 registrars and whatever happened a few weeks ago that shook things up a bit.
