domains .Science soars to 10,000 registrations in three hours

Famous Four Media launched the .Science top level domain name this morning, and registration activity has been brisk so far.

At roughly three hours after launch, 9,680 .science domain names have been registered. The company expects the number to top 10,000 within the next half hour.

Why is .science doing so well? It’s not all rocket science: some registrars are giving the domain names away free or cheap, spurring extra demand. Kind of like .casa and .work, why not try it out for a year?

I think I'll pass on trying .science for a year..But I'm sure if they want to keep giving them away, people will keep registering them (only to let them drop next year) lol

When I first saw this, I thought it .science registrations were free. The lowest I've found thus far is $1.99, anybody fiind it cheaper?

Yay! I imagine we still need to lookout for TM infrigments for companies with thier unique name + science. ie Slab.Science

(Not for certain, but I imagine that to be TM infringement or maybe Cybersquatting since their trademark is Slab Science)

I registered them before knowing science was a type of bodyboard by.
**Crosses Fingers** at prospect to trade BodyBoards.Science for a new bodyboard.

(I like how alpnames.com issues a ™ popup with the trademark name, and other information about the ™ holder. You have to accept that you read it. I think all registrars should have this.) I feel like the registrar should have sent a notification to all trademark holders with science in it, that this tld was available for registration on X day.)
