Ok, quick poll.

You have an offer on a domain at Sedo and GD and want to send it to auction, which one do you choose? Taking into account all factors, ie commission, audience, which would you choose.

For the purposes of this lets say its for an offer of $500

IMO I would go with sedo. From what little experience I have with domain names, and being registered with both Godaddy and sedo this would be my choice.

Reasons - You can list anything and everything with godaddy for auction no matter what it is, with sedo you have to have a valuable premium domain or at least one bid on your domain.

Sedo auctions are only once a month which I believe would attract more attention from serious buyers and end users. If you check dnjournal.com you will see the majority of top sales are mainly completed on sedo.

Actually Sedo auctions run continuously. True, the Great Domains featured auction runs monthly. Though other featured auctions tend to run monthly also and sometimes overlap.

Also of note, GoDaddy Auctions no longer releases their sales results publicly, which is why you don't see those sales on DN Journal. GoDaddy serves up many sales that now mostly fall under the radar.

But with GoDaddy Auctions commission structure about to increase to 20% ($1 - $5000), other venues might look more appealing IMO.

Sedo offers real two way escrow, godaddy does not AFAIK.

If you already have an offer on the table, use sedo. Goddady is good for it's reach but there is not much else going for it.

You'll just need to be clairvoyant to know when you'll be paid by GoDaddy. It's really quite bizarre. And it needs to be changed IMDHO.

Thanks Guys, keep them coming,

I see GD had 3 votes, anyone who has voted for them want to share why they have?

I've actually had more luck pushing to auction on GD. I think because of "is good for it's reach" and when I push, I also email potential leads. I think to end users, GoDaddy is more known than Sedo. And Sedo's auctions have become a bit of a joke that I don't even look at them anymore. Sedo does pay quicker tho.

That was exactly my view, GD has a bigger reach and Sedo auctions have become a joke, I haven't checked on them for months.
Although now GD have changed their commission it has muddied the waters for me a little.

Also, I'm thinking about the buyers. Both have domainers. But which platform do people think is easier to sign up and bid/buy for new users/end users, people not familiar with buying thru Sedo or Godaddy or any other place. I don't know myself. I'm thinking of going thru each as a new user and try myself.

Well, if I had to hold my nose and pick one, I'd choose Godaddy.

If and where possible, we'd say "no, daddy" to their auctions department. The question here is clear, so "No, Daddy" - "Yes, Sedo". GDs auctions dept is so disorganized... still remember our worst nightmare where we used GD, the buyer paid and initiated registrar transfers from two different registrars due to reasons unknown, and GDs auctions dept never clearly responded to our various inquiries to clarify from what registrar should we approve the transfer, but, instead, closed our auctions account as they thought that we refused to deliver the domain. In GD case, we'd prefer to limit ourselves to their premium listings instead. If it is sold - then it is sold, fine, no human actions required, if not - no problems

GoDaddy.

SEDO is the scum of the earth.

You don't need to have an offer to push the Domain to GD auction, but you should on Sedo.
So I prefer Sedo.

Godaddy if your domain is sold for/under $1,000. They will pay you in 7 days (that was in my case on my 4 sales so far).

I agree with JB, I would go with Go Daddy.

Interesting it is now 50/50 in the vote, I suspect had this vote taken place a couple of years ago, Sedo would of been a clear winner.

I decided to throw it to GD anyway.
