.Science which launched at the end of February is still adding more domain registrations a day than any other new gTLD extension by far on a daily basis.
.Science is getting around 3,000 registrations a day and around 7,000 registration on April 19.
Around 85% of all registrations are coming from Alpnames, which gave away about 50K domain names for free and are currently selling .Science domain for $.49.
However, these free to almost free domain programs, are looking more like the ccTLD of .tk which has over 25 million registered domains, than a revolution in the domain space.

The title and the content has been taken from thedomains

Michael Berkens has shared some of the domain names that were registered. 99% of these domains don't go with the extension and are non-sensical.
So, where do you think .Science is going?

In my opinion, it's never a good sign when the registry has to give away free domains. Look at the numbers being registered right now, then look at the numbers dropping this same time next year when people have to renew. Although I like science, I still don't think this extension is going anywhere. Just my 2 cents :)

Giving it free was the only way they could have got the domains registered. Otherwise I dont see much use of the domains. Now if even less than 0.1% make a site out of it in the future, they'll have a good amount of renewals ready for next year.

Hello,

It's like collecting rubbish. 99% of these names are worth and will be worth nothing. Why waste your time on it?

However, I like .SCIENCE. As long as the keyword makes sense with the TLD!

Assume many value their time to zero, that's the only rational explanation the way I see it.

The value of .science is not yet well understood. For people in academia, school suppliers and labs the only options where .edu, .gov, .com and .org. Since .edu and .gov where only available to institutions, professors and researchers where left with few options to claim a good domain name.

Most didn't want to register a .com due to the nature of academia, .org was more for organizations and .net was too technical for most of them. Now this market of researchers, professors, suppliers and educational programs have a new alternative: .science.

To be frank the large number of registrations is due to the very low price of .science domains. However there is a very real need for this TLD. In terms of number of registrations, I think .science could become even larger than .edu.

Disclosure: I own .science domains in my portfolio.

Yep I agree and just like vinyl records, 8 track tapes, beta/vcr tapes, record players, boom boxes, am/fm radio, BlockBuster, must I go on? BRB - I need to go adjust my TV antenna, might need to add some tinfoil as I'm losing the signal! :xf.grin:

they should have gone for .sci instead of .science

that would have been much better!

Having said that.. I own about 300 .science names :D

I just dropped what I consider to be 600 of the best terms in .science. Sold one for 1k and not another inquiry. Love the potential for end users but not to carry myself forever.

This is a good tool; but I'm not sure how accurate is this. It said dot io is 0.2 percent bad; and dot rent is zero percent bad...
RegFee for .IO is high... so it is not used by spammers, phishers etc.

Oh, I see. It make sense. Rent is high renewal and gold is high renewal also. Both have zero percentage bad...

Technically, if you look at .xyz, it seems to be the next tk.
