H.J. Heinz Offering 57.com Domain For Sale

Today I had noticed that the H.J. Heinz Company is offering the two number premium domain name 57.com for sale.

Digging into whois history records, this isn’t “new” because sometime between April 29, 2014 and May 24, 2014 in whois records the terms “This Domain Is For Sale” were added for the Admin Name. But it was new to me now, so I wanted to share it.

Heinz 57 is a shortened form of the historical advertising slogan “57 Varieties” and the number 57 is displayed on several labels of products for Heinz but less now than it was in the past from what I can tell.

One thing that may be hindering the potential sale, if you were to visit 57.com, the domain name does not resolve. If you add www.57.com, then you will see the domain name for sale lander with a contact form to inquire about the domain name.

This is a small oversight on behalf of brand protection company MarkMonitor who manages H.J. Heinz domains but considering that most do not add www. when trying to visit a website, it can yield less eyes than if 57.com redirected to www.57.com or vice versa.

I would expect 57.com’s offering price to be in the seven figure range (maybe $5.7M because it would be fitting). There are only 100 2 letter .com domain names like it, making it pretty rare. 52.com was just recently reported sold for $1,775,400. 37.com sold in 2014 for $1,958,400 in a private transaction. 55.com sold in 2011 for $2.3 million.
