The Best Landing Page Ever!

If you were to design your own landing page, what would it look like?

What are some of the landing page strategies that you are using to drive in inquiries?

Right now I am just using a custom landing page that has the domains name and an eMail address in image form, to prevent spam mails.

I was using a 'may be for sale' banner and a large countdown timer, and I had inquiries coming in but not many conversions as they were expecting low ball regfee prices.

So what has worked for you?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Before I made my own site for a while I was using the free 1 page website builder that Godaddy used to give you to use. You could customize it a bit to allow for text and a form. If I were to do it again I would want the landing page to represent the domain well and professionally with small paragraph about the domain, exp info and of course contact info

Great suggestion.

I agree, I previously had a descriptive paragraph and converted more. It's very time consuming to write a bit about every domain, but might be worth doing again.

The best landing page I ever saw was on FRESHSTACK dot com

But seriously, like mentioned above, a bullet point list of the pros or benefits of owning the domain along with a clearly defined For Sale sign is the best option

lol, that's quite the comedy landing page. Any pitch that starts with "Whats Up Bro," is a sure winner.

I tried a landing page idea similar to yours and didn't see much success. Could be because mine didn't look that amazing.

Did you create a custom logo for each specific landing page per domain? I know that could get kinda costly though.

I didn't create a new logo for every domain because, as you said, that would get pricey and it's definitely not worth your time.

However, I did style the domain name in CSS using text effects so that it would look more like a logo.

Right now I am setting pricing expectations on landing pages to prequalify any inquiries. Pretty fed up with the tire kickers and low ball offers at the moment.

Makes sense. Hope it works out. Update us on your landing page results if you can some time in the future.

IMO, No landing page can ever get you stronger initial offers for a domain than an actual mini-website/wp theme relating to domain with "This domain is now for sale" as the latest post. Time consuming but worth it.

That is a good idea, there is a way to duplicate something like that across domains using .htaccess and MySQL, so you wouldn't have to install and setup WP for every domain.

All of the domain requests (visits) can be handled by one file and the MySQL database serves the content that you enter for each domain.

Let's say there are two articles underneath and then a static 'ForSale Post', this can be entered directly into the MySQL database via copy/paste.

This would take a good 1-2 days to setup but It would only add an extra 10-15 minutes of time spent on each domain* to pick a header image and some copied content relevant to the subject matter.

*to go back and do this to a portfolio of domains will take some time.

Instead of having individual landers don't you think it makes more sense to forward all of your domains to one page that has all of your names listed. This way they all can be seen on one page and it gives other possible name options to the potential buyer.

I understand where you are coming from, but I was never a fan of the marketplace approach for a few reasons.

Firstly, the person interested in a legal domain is likely not going to be interested in a brandable eco name.

Secondly, if a visitor sees you have hundreds of domains for sale it also diminishes the value of your 'rare premium domain' and scatters their focus. My goal is to funnel a buyer through a specific repeatable selling process that maximizes sales.

Finally, a marketplace can scare off novice buyers.

If a visitor inquires about the domain, you know three other domains that you might be willing to part with for a lesser price. It's at that point you can pitch the alternatives, and close a sale.

I do agree somewhat but if you have many domains within a certain niche then I think it makes sense to have them all on one page. I think you're right about novice buyers being scared off but I also think that novice buyers could also be more comfortable when they see a marketplace setting because in their eyes they think it's a legitimate business that they are dealing with.
I have had multiple sales of 10 or more domains to one buyer because they landed on a page with a list full of names. If you are dealing with names that are $10,000 or more each then it probably does make sense to have individual landers that are more focused on that one particular domain.

Personally, if you don't have a great site up yet, but you know a little wordpress, then there are plugins for landers etc.

Alternatively, you can create really nice landing pages with weebly.com

With 1 account you have 10 sites and just use another email for more sites. You don't have to opt for their upgrade to personal domain as you can simply forward mask the weebly sub domain to your domain.
There is a caveat being, the weebly sponsor banner to the foot; but upgrades are cheap.

It's very easy to use, drag and drop interface. You can choose from various templates and edit and produce some pretty sophisticated looking landers.

I wouldn't recommend using the ubiquitous 'For Sale' sign. But that's me.

Visual content is the way forward!
Inform your prospective client without any hard sell. Of course have a BIN/OFFER button etc leading to sedo flippa cat etc.

Get creating!!

Okay... so it took 5 days but I totally reworked my entire mail system and the content of the domain landing pages. It's a pretty slick setup that allows me to easily duplicate a wp landing page w/ custom @Domain eMail address without installing WP and setting up an eMail account.

I will let you know how it goes.

I changed my approach, I have had zero inquiries since the change; whereas I was getting 3 - 5 every week with the previous iteration.

New approach... ZERO CONTENT.

I set everything up so that zero content would display, and just have a 'contact admin" email address that is an @[DomainName].com specific to the domain. It looks like the page that you would see on chrome if there are no name servers set, but it's actually just styled to look that way.

The mindset behind this is a psychological one... if someone wants a domain and they have an idea for it, I want to be completely out of the way of their idea and concept of their venture/project. So if they see that it's not 'in use' then maybe they will take the step to inquire. I want them to make that mental leap, instead of having a glaring "FOR SALE" in their face. They also won't know what my immediate plans are for the domain... is he trying to sell it? are they going to develop it? someone may not have thought to eMail and ask, maybe I will!

So time will tell, I'm going to leave it as it is for about a month and see how it goes.

Hi, was wondering if a landing page must take the place of a parking page. Meaning that i'll need to stop with the parking service i'm currently using in order to make a landing page.
Thanks

Yes, having a landing page will null any parking. If you are making a good deal with parking, then I wouldn't change that. However if your parking is pennies, like most these days, I would just switch to a landing page that you manage.

If giving up a few bucks a month in the sake of increasing the amounts of offers recieved than I am in. Where do I begin?
Most of my domains are on GD.

You can check out Efty.com, they have a turnkey solution for landing pages.

I am also writing a detailed blog post about a step by step process to create your own landing page; I will post it when I am finished.

Clean and simple works not only for sales pages but also for parking pages. Pretty pages look nice but don't convert as well. The sales pages I use are basically just a contact form, few domain stats, no graphics and I talk to end users every week.

Before I came into Domain Business, I used to do affiliate marketing ( that I still do ). I used to make Landing Pages with OptimizPress plugin. A very useful tool.

Well, I have the landing pages on Perception, but I also tried something new with the few ngTLD's I just picked up. Same landing pages but the background are all representative of the domain. Feel free to take a look:

American.Football
Cosmetology.School
