Before we get started here, you'll need a domain that's worth $1-10, if you don't have this, then you'll need $1-10 in your payment gateway of choice, and abit of change for a couple of fiverr gigs and shared hosting. Result may vary, for instance if you decided to develop the 63 char .top, then chances are that you'll be wasting some time.

For this guide i'll use one of the 10 domains i have recently acquired for this method of development, a domain i picked up for $4, and plan to sell for $100+.

I don't want to hype you up, telling you that you can buy a domain for the price of a donut, and sell it 6 months down the line for enough to buy the donut store, but it's not difficult to achieve a 500-600% margin.

Here's a list of really, really good tools you should be using for domain development and site flipping:

Lets take 10 days, a cheap domain and just a dash of paypal'ery, and make a sale.

We're not greedy.

This is really aimed at those that are looking to build value on top of a base domain, if it's your first time or you want a new domain to start, head over to the Buy Domains section and have a scout about for a little $10 gem.

When looking for a dev sale, we want to look at domains that cost little, don't have numbers in and can be remembered by a half-wit, because as much as you think your 8N .net is worth a lot (maybe it is?), to the end user of a flip, it's almost definitely not.

A bit of age is good to have on domains, a fresh hand reg isn't a bad thing, but remember, look through the eyes of the end-game user, most likely he's read some SEO articles on MOZ and decided that aged domains are good (hes not exactly wrong in thinking this).

We'll be following along.

So in this post we will be following a domain that i would call bargain basement, from the purchase of the name to the sale of it. As i'm writing this post, i have FileZilla and Photoshop open, you don't need Photoshop really, but i'd definitely download FileZilla, it's open source and i'm sure you are proficient enough at using google to find it.

TechnologyStand
(.com) TechnologyStand, picked it up for $4 at the NamePros marketplace earlier this week.

Day One
Get our domain, keywords and core site development done.

Lets get started.

So we have picked up our domain, you should set up your own hosting on it, google this because it's not something i should need to talk much about.

Now that hosting is out of the way, lets go onto what we are actually going to do for these 10 days and what we can expect to see in terms of return on investment and how giddy we should get with our marketing campaign.

I opened a word document and jotted some ideas down that correlate with the domain i have, TechnologyStand. Your ideas should be based on revenue methods, fast flips should look at advertising mainly, be it PPC or popups/unders - as it adds value purely on the basis of the amount of core traffic you can drive to your property. Next to your ideas it's good practice to write out revenue methods.

I thought of;

  1. Technology store, latest gadgets and such - Amazon Products (Affiliate)
  2. Technology reviews - Amazon Products (Affiliate)
  3. Technology blog - PPC, Popunders, Amazon Products (Affiliate/Advertising)
  4. Technology news portal - PPC, Popunders (Advertising)
I'm going to go with a technology news portal, it's the most content heavy, which is good for search indexing and clutter is good to blend our advertising methods in.

Dive right in.

Let's not muck about and play HearthStone, let's turn things around quickly today. Head on over to the google keyword tool and open up a word document, type the base idea topic into google keyword planner and jot down the monthly searches, as you can imagine "Technology" was real high on monthly searches, and real high on competition.

Hover over your keyword and you get the "More like this" button - it's a real beauty for me because it gives you reasonable sub-niche keywords, with little effort. I came up with Technology News, which was 76k, so i rolled again and came up with "Latest Technology News" at 8.1k and "Information Technology News" at 2.4k. I think i'll use all 3 of the keywords with a more hopeful push on the "Latest Technology News" keyword.

I open up the same word document I've been using, and jot out the keywords, at this point you'll want to write some descriptions, write 3-4 different descriptions, or if you want to push a little harder, write 2-3 different descriptions for each keyword, if you can incorporate multiple keywords in one description, go for it, even mini-keywords are good, like specific product reviews.

  • Latest technology news, apple reviews, app updates and resources.
It's a super simple, one liner with selective keywords - This isn't rocket science. Here's a longer description;
  • TechnologyStand has all the latest technology news and information for the latest gadgets and phones to detailed reviews on fresh new apps and software. Live coverage of new tech releases from emerging markets.
Okay, you get the jist of it right? Just be creative and let your mind flow onto the page, if you don't like it, or feel it doesn't entice you, just slam the backspace key and start again.

Build it, and they will come.

I assume you got cpanel hosting, if not then head over to wordpress.org and download a copy of wordpress, get a google search on the go for how to install it, although it's incredibly simple.

If you did get cpanel hosting, navigate to your Softaculous or other 1-click-install solution provided by your host, and install wordpress. As the site title, if your domain doesn't have a desirable ring to it, use one of the keywords you have picked, and make sure the description is one of the one liners you wrote down not so long ago.

So far you should have a domain, a document with a bunch of keywords and senseless jibberish and of course you should have your wordpress installation on the root of your domain.

If you have more money in paypal than i suggested you would need, or if you want to spend more, you can head over to themeforest and buy yourself a shiny new theme, but don't forget, we are bringing this back to business, you don't need to buy a domain for $4 and then spend $60 on a theme, it's counter productive, expenses should be kept to a minimum.

Free themes, there are a huge, vast amount of free themes on the market, or you can try your luck with a completely free wordpress theme builder.

Open photoshop or whatever graphic program you have, and make a simple logo, the key to doing this effectively, is speed.

Three steps to creating a logo for a site like this;

  1. Go to fontsquirrel or dafont and browse for 60 seconds till you find a font.
  2. Open up graphics editor, type the name of your website in a font.
  3. Go to flatuicolors and pick a color for your font.
Alright good job, don't get any ideas that your the Mozart of web design because you can write stuff in a different font and give it a pretty color, google "Cavemen Drawings" if you need to deflate your ego abit.

They will come, right?

Remember when i said you'd need some spare change for fiverr gigs? Well here we are, when you build something and expect people to come to it without doing anything else, to be blunt, that makes you stupid.

Keep your keyword document open, head over to fiverr, get into the Social Media Marketing category, or do a search for "Social Signals" and "Twitter Traffic" - Have a look around - if you need personal recommendations then you can either send me a PM, me listing off fiverr gig's won't fly with Eric i don't think, and there will be web dev's getting all mad and acting like children if i expose their cheap ways.

You want to find the highest value gigs on fiverr, scout through really hard - and pick up gigs that boost your traffic and advertising revenue, if you've gone with popups and such, then "Twitter Traffic" and "1000 twitter traffic/day" sort of gigs are the ones you want, but you also need to pick up a solid social signals gig.

For Technology Stand, i picked up 2 gigs, one of them is for 600 social signals ($5) and the other is for 700/twitter traffic a day ($5). I'm curious to see how the 700/day works out - looking forward to it actually - see how well it converts with the advertising - i will post stats on day 2.

Don't activate the gigs yet, just buy them and leave them in your fiverr account till tomorrow when we get round to using them.

Till day 2.

Tomorrow we will add content to our site and set the fiverr gigs up, it's only a 10 minute day, the set up process is done.

Thanks for reading, give me some feedback and let me know if you need any help with free wordpress themes or fiverr recommendations, but a good bit of google'age will do the trick.

Toby.
