Got an offer via Sedo, yeah!

Twice my acceptable asking price, hmmm!

"Buyer" is from a Middle East country in that is not famous for domainers! Hmmm!

"Buyer" just joined Sedo, hmm!

Opinion?

You never know. I had a buyer from Iraq once, payment was slow but eventually completed.

Is the domain a 4L with 2 consonants and 2 vowels?

Well...Sedo has an escrow service so you won't risk anything.
You can also push the name to auction with that offer as starting bid and see what happens!

Don't get too excited - had a sale to someone in the same region that fell through after a security check. Was also a new buyer.

Since sedo closes down on the weekends you'll probably have to wait 3 days to find out if it's legitimate or now.

I don't see any risk, as Sedo provides escrow. Lot's of end users sign up at Sedo just to buy one name, especially if your nameservers were set there.

No real concerns, simply pointing out that it does not really add up particularly with the offer being being almost twice asking price and it is a $xxxxx amount!

I only get excited with domain "sales" when the proceeds are in my hot sweaty little palm! B-)

It's like you said, the deal is never done until the domain is pushed and the funds are received. Had a decent sale on one of my domains the other week and it fell through. That stuff happens. At least since it's through Sedo you don't have much risk here. Congrats on the sale - I hope it gets completed! Keep us posted.

You mean the buyer could see your asking price and chose to made an offer double that amount ? Or your asking price was not showing ?

It cant hurt to call this new user's bluff! Assume he is bsing and just go ahead. if its real you cash out, if its not, you're not too dissapointed since you were expecting it. Just accept offer and see what happens next.

It looks like he just joined SEDO because of your domain - he have to do that if he wants to make a bid ;)
As other NP members said - SEDO is a safe place.
If your domain will be sold to him, he have to pay SEDO first for your domain, than SEDO will pay you for your domain (minus fee), than your domain will be tranfered.

But his bid is only a bid as long as you didn't accept it as the final sale price.
Your reply bid (if) is guilty for 7 days.

And, 'Middle East' doesn't mean anything.

He might not be a domainer but an end-user who wants to start a website and your domain is the perfect domain name for him. I know a middle eastern's forum that has a domain section in it. I see few people posting threads asking people to help them to get domains on Sedo and other domain auctions, so that might be your case.

Correct.
Asking price not BIN
That changes everything. Sounds like a loser now. I once received a weird offer of something like $7619. Turned out she was a typo visitor and thought she was entering a password. (At least I learned where the traffic was coming from.)

If your asking price was visible and you got offered double, it's either a mistake or a scam.

Like you said, the deal's not real until the money is in the bank. (And even then...)

Just an update.

As expected nothing from "buyer" Sedo tried to contact by phone as well as email reminders.

The interesting thing here is that to make the offer he/she did certification is required by Sedo, or at least should be? ( Over $10K)

I asked Sedo twice if certification had been issued but no response.

Se Le vie, over the past few years I think I have almost as many "fakes" as real offers. Strange what some people get off on!

@wot- just had a similar experience today. "unknown buyer" made an offer that was $10 over my BIN. Upon accepting and allowing sedo proceed, i was told there was a security issue. Sedo cancelled the transaction and exposed the bidder's name and address. Some guy from New Jersey. uhh.

This is the non paying person:

"Twikerz

Mohammed Boudaoui
Beni Amrane,
Boumerdes
35006 beni amrane
Algeria "

These are the details provided by Sedo, I can find the place but not the name -Twikerz was the first word but not sure if it related to the .com or what?

Grateful if anyone can trace an email address so I can point this person to the many posts I will be making on the various forums, blogs.

Thanks

Algeria,Africa.
The guy had been certified for offers in excess of $10K so quite strange.
