What domain extension to use?
Hi,
I am setting up a gaming clan for Europe, but may expand out side of Europe at a later stage.
I have got the following domain extensions, what one should I use?
The .com version has, been registered by someone else, but has been down for awhile.
.eu
.org
.netRegards,
Garry

If those are your only 3 options, I'd say go for .net
Uptime Monitor - Minimize your downtime by being the first to know about it!
Blacklist Monitor - Are any of your IPs or Domains blacklisted? Find out before it gets to affect you or your clients.

.eu in my opinion as your targeting the EU market, you could buy a .net if you can and redirect one to another.

I have just bought the .com version with a dash in the name, so will use that as the main domain and then park the others on top of the .com with a dash in it.

If you have only these 3 option then I must suggest you to use .net to run your website as it's more flexible and cheap even .net are always human interested.

If .com is not available then I would suggest you to go with .net address. It is second most popular domain extension among all types of business.

I would choose .eu since you are targeting European area. If you get successful later on then you will find an alternative solution to this problem.
In my opinion .eu is a good choice to start with.

If you ask me, In that case I would buy .org because that domain representing an organization.
WhoAPI - Domain API with WHOIS, blacklists and availability in JSON!

Yesterday I was able to get a shorter .com without any dashes, so will swap over to that, once the site is ready to go live.

I say .eu since you can build a brand around that... and hopefully not confuse too much with the .com. .Net, in my opinion, is close to .com and people might assume it is the same company.
And I don't know, but will .eu provide any additional legal protections?
With all that said, I would go and find a .com and use that... forget all others. That .com will take some of your business and cause confusion since you don't own it.Windows 10 to Linux and Mac OSX: I'm PARSECs better than you. Eat my dust!!!

Since you said the .com has nothing on it I suggest you do a quick WHOIS lookup and see if you can get the info and email address of the owner and contact them asking to buy the domain. You'd be surprised as to how many people are willing to sell the domains that they aren't using at the moment.
That being said, if you can't get your hands on the .com you might just want to settle for the .net.

Yup.... and soon as he launches the .net, the .com (that he does not own) will magically appear with ads or maybe even similar content... confusing the heck out of people.
Much as people don't want to admit it, people still give .com as the default. I thought many years ago that this would not be the case and went with a non-.com and ended up changing my domain over to a .com.Windows 10 to Linux and Mac OSX: I'm PARSECs better than you. Eat my dust!!!
