So I thought i'll join in, and create a domain name to receive a little extra income or sell off.

I'm sure you guys have heard of the major search engine for privacy 'duckduckgo.com'. Well, I thought i'll be a bit clever and make a similar domain name that looks the same and could be mistaken for it: 'cluckcluckgo.com'

Notice how the 'cl' looks like a 'd'. And cluck is an actual word.

Unfortunately, i can't find any decent guides online on what to do with a domain after I brought it. It all seems a bit complicated. Would you guys mind helping me out? Thanks.

Edit: a few months ago, someone offered me $400 for it. It was an agent from Domhub offering that amount to me on behalf of his client. I couldn't find a way to accept it, and the only option available seemed to be to offer him a counteroffer and see whether he would accept. I offered it for $500, and I never heard back from him :(

TBH, I cant imagine anyone typing in CL when they meant to type D. Its a whole additional keystroke. Typos work best when the typo key is physically next to the correct key, as in fuckfuckgo.com, which is an actual typo porn site. But if you insist on developing it then you just have to decide what it will be and make it. Personally, I'd drop it if you still can and get your money back.

Thanks cocaseco. I don't want to develop it. I just want to park it or sell it for the most amount of money I can get.

Unfortunately, parking seems awfully complicated (and godaddy seems to rip you off wherever it can) because there's so much choice, and so little chance of making money (and then there's the business of transferring your domains all over the place from godaddy to other websites). It's a real headache.

I was hoping that because cluck looks very similar to duck, the domain would be in demand because people would be tricked into clicking a link from there, thinking it continues to duckduckgo.

Edit: I just went on fuckfuckgo.com. It's parked.

Thanks. Where do you suggest I start? Do you know any good guides?

I would use the search forum button and fire away. Not really any bad place to start in my opinion. Perhaps other members can recommend good threads to read.

Welcome to NP. It seems u r talking about benefiting from traffic of misspelled words. It is lot complicated and consistent income is not assured. Further, you might face Trademark related issue if u use a similar name or/and engaged in similar business.
Buying and selling domains is much better option and you can make plenty of money if you do rightly. This is a niche less prone to scam. I suggest you start browsing the forum.

The glaring issue with your domain is, how on earth would you trick people into clicking the link? Other websites would have to link to your page for one, and I would assume getting others in on your scheme would not be an easy task. If you want to go that route, you could just use anchor text on forums that allow link posting, and your page URL could appear to be whatever you want.

More importantly, you should put yourself in the link followers shoes (assuming you pulled this off) what are the odds they they are gonna just be annoyed by being brought to an advert page, when expecting ddg? It's not going to woo them into a buying mood, that's for sure. Good ethics go a long way.

Misspelled domains are another story, it's the users fault for typing the URL wrong. It's a common mistake, and nobody is "fooled" into being brought to your site... That's straight "type-in" traffic, which is what you want to achieve for non-intentional visitors...

Sometimes, while initially seeming clever, ideas like these can be avoided by looking at the whole picture.... Most of us have learned the hard way just like you though lol...

BTW, welcome to NP

Damn. I thought I came up with something quite clever. That's a shame.

Welcome grassmudhorse,

you can start by reading threads here : https://www.namepros.com/forums/domain-beginners.25/ - I think you are good for a month :) . As for your domain - I've seen worse first regs so no harm no foul, but I suggest you to read and learn first before you go up and spend it all on new hand regs. If you want to learn and earn at the same time it's best to start with liquid domains that are sure to sell so you get a hang of it - current hot niche is LLLL .com's - but don't spend all on one domain. Start small, maybe buy something here on forum first (but do a research first eg. who could you sell that domain to for a better amount, how to properly market it, ...) and stick to .com's at first so you get a good grip on how transactions are handled, escrows, ... and with small starting portfolio renewals won't kill you off (~$9 per domain / year, as some new gTLDs could). And if your goals are set never give up - there is some luck in domaining, but more than luck there is hard work just like in any business. Work & learn hard!

BTW...parking is incredibly easy and there are lots of detailed thread on here. Just pick a company, create an account and upload domain list in its simplest form.

This name is a TM issue, hence a liability.
Domhub is a scam sorry. Nobody is going to buy this domain.
