Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd start a new thread for a fun game of "Why do they rank?" It's for SEO pros and noobs alike.

First up: www.criminaldefenseattorneyhuntsville.net

Highest ranking individual website for "Huntsville Criminal Lawyer"

Why does it rank?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Its not the highest ranking from my location. Though Its showing up at 5th position.
Its ranking in the first page because of the keyword match in the domain name and also the title and on page.

I get 3 sponsored posts, and 3 other sites, before I get that net.
But hey, given a domain with 3 or 4 or more words, easy to rank on first page for exact match.

I think, keyword in page and page content is unique .

Maybe because of backlinks from high value resource

What content do they have and how does it compare to their competitors? What are they doing differently that makes you think it's their content?

Maybe because of backlinks from high value resource

What links to they have, specifically?

If you have a theory, please back it up with some evidence. Just guessing isn't very helpful :).

He has strong, consistent local citations, which may be helping him in the local "pack." He has very few active backlinks - nothing great, but nothing really bad either.

A lot of people still dont know about about credibility or dont care vis a vis domain names . I have seen a company worth a few hundred thousands using a 2 hyphen domain name. Asked them if they wanted to gain credibility for their company by buying thier exact match name without any hyphen and in .com. They said thanks no, we have a website already.

Have you looked around at names of attorney sites? Typically, they are very long - either keywords or the name of the firm. Domainers may not like it ;), but a long domain won't stand out as a negative to potential clients or to search engines.
