Canonical URL question

    Hi all-

New to the forum. Had a specific question.

I have a site where I've set up Google Webmaster Tools so that the preferred domain URL does not have "www". So it's just http :// examplewebsitename . com

I was looking through the backlinks pointing at my site, and noticed a few relatively good "do follow" links are pointing toward the version of my URL that does have "www". So they're not pointing at the preferred version of my URL.

Is this going to impact my SEO? Am I missing out on potential increase in SERP or page rank?

The reason I ask is I'm considering contacting those websites and asking them nicely if they'd mind changing it. It's only 2-3 sites.

But if this is so petty and insignificant that I shouldn't bother, let me know.

Any insight is appreciated in terms of what you'd recommend doing, and also what impact on SEO a situation like I described above has, if any.

I don't think so that it will leave big impact on your SERP or page rank. For safe-side use 301 redirect for www version of your website. So whenever someone click with www it moves to your preferred domain.

Not sure if it's static or dynamic. It's a WP site. The "www" version already automatically redirects to the http version, so that's good to go. I think Wordpress handles this automatically.
