This boggles me.

Years ago I purchased innovations.tv in an auction right here on NP.

I always loved the word innovation as it describes the way I feel about my entrepreneurial spirit, So I set up a personal site promoting some projects I was working on. I never really followed through with the blog and now I decided to throw the name up for auction to see what happens.

The way I saw it at the time I purchased innovations.tv was that this name should have some pretty obvious value, but now I am not so sure.

innovations.com sold for 100,000.00, and a quick search in namebio shows lots of domains with "innovation" have been traded for good money.

My domains always get bids on flippa and other sites and a whole lot of attention, but to my surprise I have not received a single bid on this name in two tries at auction (currently running).

My question to NP is did I just fall in love with a name and not realize that it is not very valuable? Am I wrong about the quality of this domain name? I feel that a lot of what I think I know about domaining may need to change if I am wrong here because I've always felt that this was one of my stronger domains in my portfolio.

What am I missing?

no worries man, .tv is a hit or a miss - you could get a end user out of nowhere that will by a less quality name then this for 15k

I had xxxxxxxx /tv since 2010 and I have not received not one inquiry on it in five years. When I tell people about the name they turn heads like "do you really own that name?" as if it's a 30k name.

What I have learned is .tv is very niche based; media, live, streaming, tv, what's happening now. So the amount of people that want to do a tv show or media site called "innovationstv" is extremely small.

If you take how many people are doing startups with innovations it's a different story; say .io for example, Does not represent television but does represent tech or whatever people think what io means.

So there would be a lot more end users if they were looking at the name for a different niche other then television

The singular would be better IMO but yes it comes down to that random end user that wants your name.

I read a story this week about an XYZ (engage) name selling for over $5k. I thought in nearly ten years of domaining I have never had a $5k sale and for that same keyword if I had Engage.Info and someone offered me $349 I would say "SOLD!" Would I even backorder Engage.net for $69 - probably not....

I guess I've been domaining long enough to already know that domains sales are often surprising. i just thought this name would get a bit more attention. Truth is that many of my sales over the years have been unexpected. Often it is unpredictable.

However, one problem with reported sales on many sites is that the sales often include an existing site. So we are not always talking about pure domain name value. Often a poor quality name is reported as sold for high value, when in reality the name has nothing to do with what the buyer was interested in.

I like it, .tv, wish I had more.. I'm seeing .TV appear all over the place, on TV just today.

The TV show displayed BillyGraham.tv, although it's a redirect these TV shows do nothing but help this extension IMO.
