Amazon launches Snowball : a domain and data transfer enclosure

The new Amazon Snowball appliance.

If you’re an average domain investor spending most of their day pushing a pencil at work, all your domains might fit on a 16 Gb USB stick.

On the other hand, the good news is, when you need to transfer all your domains to a new registrar, the transition won’t take long.

Larger domain investors however, with thousands or millions of domain names, will appreciate the new Amazon Snowball box.

Offering enhanced security and 50 Tb – that’s terabytes – of space, the Amazon Snowball is the perfect fit for the following domain-related scenarios:

  • Frank Schilling wanting to move his 350,000 strong domain portfolio from his Caymans living room to the balcony overlooking the ocean.
  • Rick Schwartz fitting all his numeric NNN and his short LLL and LLLL .com domains, alongside his adult domains; they’re just too many.
  • Mike Berkens cramming tens of thousands of premium domains next to thousands of extra lengthy gTLDs, all to the right of the dot.

But it’s great for domain registrars too; imagine several million domains being moved between Uniregistry and Uniregistrar when the merger completes in January, the transfer could be facilitated with a couple of Amazon Snowball boxes.

It’s a great gadget for the domain industry. Find out more about the Amazon Snowball here.
