Have you sold any domain names through Afternic? Is it worth using?

We have had an account with Afternic since 2006 and never sold a single domain name. Don't even get many offers.

We know the domain names are not rubbish as we get offers and have sold quite a few through Sedo.

We have spent considerable time categorising the domain names, describing the benefits of each one etc.

From the statistics in the interface, most of the domain names are getting zero views, so people are not even looking at them. That makes me concerned about the number of buyers using Afternic.

Are people getting many sales through Afternic?

Thanks.

Hello Azam,
My name is Bob Mountain and I run Business Development and Account Services at Afternic. I'd be interested in learning more about how your names are listed for sale on Afternic. Our real strength is reaching end-user buyers and Fixed Price "Buy Now" domains achieve by far the highest sales velocity with this audience. Also we run the largest domain reseller network in the world but in addition to a fixed price, most of our larger resellers require the domain to be registered with a participating "Fast Transfer" registrar. This ensure that the domain can be moved into the sellers account within minutes of purchase.

Feel free to reach out to us directly, SERVICE at AFTERNIC DOTCOM or call our main number 1-800-781-2800 and ask for customer service. Looking forward to working with you to increase your domain sales on Afternic.

"My name is Bob Mountain and I run Business Development and Account Services at Afternic."

Since you're here, is there a way or will there be a way to opt out domains from showing up at other places? I recently deleted all the ones I had listed and had to re-add them because sometimes I listed them at Afternic first, then GoDaddy, but Afternic took precedent and I couldn't list the ones at GoDaddy the way I wanted. I like to keep them separated. So I have to list at GD first, then Afternic, the way I have to go around it. But there should be a simple checkbox to this, opt out.

"Are people getting many sales through Afternic?"

Only a couple.

"Is it worth using?"

Doesn't hurt, you never know, more eyeballs on your domains, better chance for a sale.

Bob - many thanks for your response. That is much appreciated.

Sadly we have suffered abysmal customer and therefore try to get as much done ourselves without pulling our hair out trying to get replies. Last year we tried to contact Stephen Duquette in response to an email from him (his job title says 'BuyDomains Sales Executive' but I presume he is part of or has a close association with Afternic as our domain name was listed with you) and, despite trying to email and phone him ten times and even other staff at Afternic trying to remind him to get back to us, he didn't reply. It tooks weeks of chasing up to eventually get a pithy reply from him.

Anyhow, we'll get in touch with Afternic. Thank you once again.

I received an email re a 'sale's lead' from another well known registrar. Is there any problem with my removing the domain from my for sale list, being as a 'sales lead' is no binding agreement.

Bob, we sent a few emails to Afternic on September 2 and, as usual, haven't had a response to a single one. Could you kindly get somebody to reply?

I've had one very nice sale through Afternic and was recently received an offer on another name I had listed (but had sold elsewhere recently). In my limited experience after 6 years of listing there I have not done well with Afternic in terms of number of offers but the offers I did get were very good (high $xxxx+).

I have listed with them for years, overall it is poor.

I've joined them just recently , that's true they don't answer emails , which is not good , what if you need an assistance during a sale ? so i delisted my domains .

They may be bad but a sale is a sale and the more eyes that you can get on your domain the better. I don't remember if it was $6k or $8k I got for gadgets.tv but without Afternic I'd probably be poorer by that amount..

Afternic is worthless for the most part. Reading their sales reports, they DO sell domains but I've never met anyone who had ever sold even 1 through them. They might only be good for heavy-hitter domains. I recommend you to never use Afternic & pretend they don't exist.

"I recommend you to never use Afternic & pretend they don't exist."

Why? What would be the harm is listing your domains, the ole more eyeballs deal.

And checking the stats, the sell about the same as Sedo each week. Checking Berken's blog, the most recent:

Sedo
699 transactions took place on Sedo’s marketplace and via SedoMLS, totaling over $1 million.

week before:
Sedo Transactions Total $1.1 Million

Afternic
Afternic.com Sells $1.08MM

More eyes doesn't mean a thing, really. Even I've had little to no views to my domains there--and I've had some decent ones, too. If Afternic was free, it'd be different. In essence, you'd be giving money away with nothing in return. Yeah, the sales they make look good but I daresay Afternic is a fraud--I've never heard of anyone ever even have an offer from Afternic. Not personally, anyway. I wonder where their pseudo sales come from...

Of course it does, basic marketing. It just takes 1 person to see one of your domains and want it. The sales are there, I just posted some of the numbers. To call it a fraud is a bit ridiculous.

"I've never heard of anyone ever even have an offer from Afternic."

? If you even just read this thread, you had a few post they had sales.

I said PERSONALLY know ;)

And actually, not really true with the more-eyes thing. In a way, yeah, it IS true but with Afternic, those eyes rarely look into any domain.

To each his own, I suppose. I used Afternice for a few years & wasted my $ with highlights etc on domains I know were good. I received nothing in return. A few ppl here had success with them, which is good. But for every success story I've read, I've read 500 stories of disappointment. Afternic is a waste IMO unless you have a category-killer there.

Typical commment about After market Sale sites like AFTERNIC & SEDO
"They must be fraudsters because when I listed my really crappy names at stupid prices no-one bought them."
Newsflash guys Afternic and Sedo do sell for Excellent prices GOOD names.
They do not bother with $5 names listed at $xxxx prices

Bingo. So if ya don't have an A-lister (or high B-lister) domain, Afternic might not be for you. They actually DO make sales. But the vast majority of domainers never see even interest in a domain on Afternic. This isn't really Afternic's fault, though: most domainers own mostly or all crap domains, anyway. See a correlation?

What 'decent' domains did you have that weren't getting any views?

Couldn't tell ya. I gave up on Afternic long ago & can't recall even 1 domain I had there.

New Afternic is released , i like it so far , tax form sending options is solved now , everything is clearer now and organised , just listed a few domains all approved but it appears .co.uk , .tv and .ch needs further verification and i should call Afternic to do so !! another thing i noticed , available payment methods : paypal or check , what about a wire transfer ?
But i like it so far !

Apparently there are some glitches like when you edit the description for a domain , and another glitch when u add a category to your listing .

Overall, buy it now works better for me vs make offer.

I have sold on both GoDaddy and Sedo, but now with their SedoMLS partnership, your sedo domains will get exposure on GoDaddy.

However, commission levels vary depending on the type of sale and which is your primary platform.

As for Afternic, I tried listing my Namecheap domains there in the past for AfternicDLS, but apparently they don't qualify as a DLS partner, even though Namecheap is an Enom registrar.
