Read This Examine.com Email Case Study

I would guess that quite a few  people know Sol Orwell (formerly Ahmed Farooq) from his time in the domain investment space. Sol is the founder of Examine.com, a very successful website that was launched in 2011. Sol paid $41k for Examine.com, and he has received much acclaim as a result of the success and popularity of the business.

I want to direct you to a fantastic email marketing case study that Sol shared on his personal website, SJO.com. Sol detailed how he and his company “segmented our email list at  Examine.com to 6500 emails and used it to generate over $100,000 for a sale.” There is quite a bit of detail about the tactics the company used as well as the payoff.

Some of you may know that I have my Master’s Degree from New York University in Direct and Interactive Marketing (I think the program is now a MS in Integrated Marketing). Several of our classes used case studies to teach us direct marketing best practices. The Examine.com  email marketing case study is as good as any I can recall, and I think it is relevant to people who read this blog.

I just signed up for Sol’s SJO.com newsletter list and hope he shares more great learnings. Also, for those who are wondering… Sol told me that he paid  $24,000 for SJO.com via Heritage Auctions in October.

Interestingly, this month’s DN Journal cover story is about Sol, and that is also worth a read when you have some time.
