Your opinion about porkbun.com domain registrar ?
Hello,
I have around 40 domain names to transfert out form Go daddy because it is too expensive.
I found namecheap which is 15% less for renewal and transfert and porkbun dot com which is -25%
This company is in US, accreditated, but young, small team and not well known.
As the amount is around 1000€ that I have to prepay before the transfert do you think there is a risk by doing business with them ?
What happens to my domain if the company become in bankruptcy ? I will lost my domain ?
Thank you in advance
PS : if you have any voucher for new extension renewal for namecheap I would be interested.0

They've apparently been around since 1999, but their domain expires this year. Since I've never heard of them, this would raise red flags for me, especially given the amount of money you're investing. Personally, I'd stick with Namecheap. Your choice, though.

Why risk over discount? You are putting pretty high money there and I would recommend to stick with namecheap instead.

Whois.domaintools.com/porkbun.com or any free Whois service will tell you that.
Personally I'd stick with Namecheap, if just because Porkbun name makes me think of those dirty comedies from the '80s and '90s - it's not a professional name, but that's just my personal opinion...which drives me away, though. My "ranking" is kidding.

I understand and share ou opinion.
the problem with namecheap is that they refuse for the moment to transfert in premium domains (porkbun too)
Do you know which serious registrar accept it ?0

Never heard of them. There's a reason for that.
I suggest not putting all your eggs in one basket ... and especially into "unknown basket".
Pick Moniker, Regtons.com, Name.com, Namecheap, Dynadot, .... registrar which understand the business and have decent support and security.
On other hand, Porkbun LLC is ICANN accredited registrar so it has to meet some standards.

Hope I helped0

2 Clarifications from Porkbun
The whois record for Porkbun.com shows a 1999 date only because that's the date the name was originally registered. It has recently been put into use for our new ICANN Registrar. Also, premium names can be transferred in on TLDs that we support.

Perhaps unrelated, but Porkbun is a horrible name in terms of branding. You're virtually excluding 35% of the population if you understand what I'm referring to. I'd go with a more solid domain registrar.

You didn't understand what I'm referring to. It's not just "silly". To make it clear for you, there are certain cultures and and a major religion that doesn't want to be associated with pork. Say what you want, but business is business, and with a name like that, you're really limiting your reach here.

HostHeart, I understand the cultural issues around "eating" pork products, but I didn't think that would automatically create an aversion to anything pig or pork related. For example, would people also not watch Charlotte's web, or Miss Piggy?

Islamic people wouldn't, as @HostHeart said, as their culture simply sees pork as a "filthy creature" to be avoided at all costs; that alone is already a massive chunk of possible clients you're losing, considering how many countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia have a wide islamic population.
My "ranking" is kidding.

OK with me
The inhabitants of the middle kingdom (and their expats) represent a significant proportion of the world population (including Malaysia), for them pork buns & dumplings are a staple diet.
There are plenty of silly registrar names out there Tucows? Hostgator?
Maybe you should have grabbed dumpling.com , As pretty much all cultures have a dumpling of some sort , this leaves the content of the dumpling somewhat ambigious, (so even the residents of Florida with their gator dumplings wouldn't be offended).
Anyway it's only a registrar name , it's only ever seen doing a whois.
The general clientele of porkbun are arty types anyway, and less likely to be dogmatic.
If you don't like porkbun.com as registrars , try spread.love instead!Last edited by salbay; 05-02-2016 at 12:41 AM. Reason: clarification of staple diet , added spread.love

Open a chat with the namecheap customercare. They will surely give you special pricing if you want to trnasfer in such large no. of domains.

I actually considered some form of "dumpling" but was hard to get the right name. Thanks for that suggestion and comment. As an aside, TUCOWS was originally an acronym for "The Ultimate Collection of Windsock Software". Fun that you found spread.love :-)
