Hi. hoping some others can contribute as I can't speak Chinese but have some interest in languages. All help welcome!

Has anyone considered the meanings (translations) of the various cctld's to help predict some of the interest?

.gg got some recent interest and according to google translate and yabla, gg corresponds to

english translation according to google -> just
simplified chinese - 广告 = advertise, commercial
traditional chinese - 剛剛 = just recently, just a moment ago

so if you put together something like 888.gg could it have some constructed meaning like making wealth by advertising or similar.

There is also the repeated characters with gg which fits in with repetition as a way of reinforcing in chinese language and also the benefit of being SHORT!. Short is king, but short + relevant might be better too!

The point of this is of course to be able to construct relevant sounding domains instead of people blindly registering lucky numbers ;)

I didn't want to derail @Kassey Lee 's wonderful thread on the chinese perspective so thought it best kept to its own small thread.

That's a great idea. I also noticed in some recent news stories some folks are trying creatively to add another angle to ccTLDs. For example,

.tw (Taiwan)
.TW:跳舞>Dance

.gs (South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands)
- GS:公司>Company

It's gonna take quite some effort to rebrand these ccTLDs.
