Allegravita Brings on Kurt Pritz As Partner

Although I don’t know Kurt Pritz personally, I know that he has been active in the domain name space (primarily with ICANN) for many years. For nearly two years, Kurt served as Executive Director of the Domain Name Association, an organization that is quite involved in the new gTLD space.

Allegravita is a consulting firm with domain industry companies among its clients. I believe the company’s primary focus is helping domain industry companies advance their business interests in the Chinese market. They seem to be  successful at what they do, as the renewed commitment of their relationship with .Club illustrates.

A couple of days ago, Allegravita announced that Kurt Pritz was joining the company as a Partner, and several outlets wrote about the news, including Domain Name Wire. This seems like a great opportunity for Allegravita and for Kurt. I reached out to Simon Cousins from Allegravita and to Kurt to get their thoughts on what Kurt will bring to Allegravita’s clients  and how this is going to help their businesses.

Here are the comments Kurt shared with me about the move:

I am extremely honoured that Simon, Catherine Davis and the Allegravita team have welcomed me as an appropriate partner to help them develop their business in a way that continues to meet the needs of their growing client list. Much of Allegravita’s success to date can be attributed to their deep, talented and experienced team, which offers a set of highly valued and unique skills to assist entry into the Chinese business market. Due to a variety of economic circumstances domain names are of singular value in China as an investment and the coincident introduction of new TLDs means a great opportunity for both registry operators and registrants alike. Allegravita is the only firm with the contacts, local knowledge and business acumen to make the connections that enable domain name registries access to this huge developing market. Success begets success and demand for Allegravita services continue to grow because of the respect Simon and his team have engendered, not only in the industry, but throughout China. I am very excited to join the Allegravita team at this critcial time.

Here are Simon’s comments about Kurt’s decision to join the company:

Any reading of Kurt’s CV leaves the reader impressed. Kurt started his career with a masters in physics, added an MBA, then earned a law degree and was admitted to the California Bar. Hearing that he was a senior VP at Disney, responsible for hundred-million dollar budgets in theme parks, then was the guy hired by ICANN to be in charge of the new gTLD program’s initiation, and then became the founding exec director of the DNA is, to most people (including us) really super impressive. But over the last couple of years, having the chance to work directly with Kurt on domain industry development was what helped us to really comprehend what this guy has. Kurt has qualities that I lack: patience, diplomacy and a laser-sharp mind that perfectly complements my marketing way of thinking.

Kurt and Allegravita teams in New York and Beijing have actually been collaborating on several special projects for the last couple of months. The quality of strategy that we were jointly able to deliver wasn’t only better than we’ve ever produced; it was also about twice as fast. Then a couple of weeks ago the penny just dropped for us all, that the combination of Kurt Pritz and the Allegravita team is exceptionally powerful, and the chemistry between us all is so healthy and positive.

Kurt brings an operational knowledge of the internet sector that is rivalled only by the oldest and most experienced hands in the business (and it has been a powerful thing to combine Kurt’s skills and knowledge with the exec teams of our clients, some of which are in that upper echelon of industry masters).

Looking back on our long history — we’ve served more than 250 clients over 13 years (and they’re all listed on our website) — my co-founders and I never dreamed we’d have the skills and abilities that someone like Kurt brings to the team. We’re just incredibly excited for how the Allegravita methodologies will improve in coming months.

Net benefit? More and better business outcomes in China and Chinese-speaking communities for our many registry (and our new registrar) clients — as well as our non-domain sector clients in property development, non-profit, food and beverage, and other sectors.

We’re closing out the Year of the Ram having posted our strongest corporate performance in our team’s 13 year history. The ram year beat our previous all-time record, 2008 (the Beijing Olympics year, which was a monster for our team). With Kurt in our partnership, our board and the work for our clients, next week’s fire monkey year is a lock to beat 2015.
