Cost of a new Registrar
Hello everyone,
I am interested in becoming a registrar. I really don't know the cost yet. After done some research in ICANN (icann.org/resources/pages/financials-55-2012-02-25-en), I can only sure that:
Capital: $100k
Application fee: $3,5k
Annual fee: $4k
Another fee are Variable fee (quarterly) and Transaction-based gTLD fee. But I am not sure what exactly is that, can anyone help me?
I sure there are some other fee like new register, renew, transfer... Do I need any software do work with ICANN ?
Anyone have experience in this fields please help.
Thank you

Have you thought about simply going with a reseller account with eNom or such? It's much easier, as you'll have someone to back you up and an established platform where to start learning from.
My "ranking" is kidding.
I'm just a humble client, here to seek help and guidance from the true experts.

The wholesale price of gtld domains is usually protected and only revealed in the contract between ICANN registry and ICANN registrar.
I believe normally it is against the terms on the contract to mention the wholesale price as this is commercially sensitive information. That's why you don't see lists of wholesale pricing arond the web.

For becoming an ICANN accredited Registrar, costing should be least of your worries. There are various requirements that the Registrars have to meet on daily and annual basis. On top of that, to establish the technical setup, you'll really need to know your way around to run your Registrar setup efficiently.
As issues arise on a daily basis and without any homework, it takes only a matter of time before the Registrar loses his accreditation. Many plan to start a Registrar business and get ICANN accredited but what they don't realize is that maintaining the accreditation year after year is the difficult part.
Becoming a Reseller is still easy as there are less liabilities to worry about and the cost is pretty reasonable if you choose your platform wisely.
