The domain name world is definitely changing and the opportunities are expanding. Even if you "missed out" on the "easy money" from .COM domains there is now a chance to see a return on smart investing in new gTLD's.

I recently broke the $25K mark in domain sales and those sales have all been from premium gTLD domain sales in the last 12 months and from a sales effort that has only been part-time.

I'm not interested in getting into arguments with .COM only domainers, about the merits of gTLD domains. All I can tell you is, based on my own first-hand experience, there is absolutely a market for gTLD's that make intuitive sense.

I can't comment on all the specifics of my sales, but I can share the following:

Earth.Works = $11,250
---------.city = $3,000
---------.city = $3,000
---------.city = $3,000
[4 pro sports teams] .news = $3500
---------- .directory = $5000

Three of these deals were monthly installment plans. The others are paid. The deals have been an equal mix of outbound and inbound sales.

Again, this has happened in the past 12 months. I wonder how many "new" .com domainers have made $25K in the past 12 months by selling just names that they purchased during the past year.

Now, I totally and completely agree with the argument that the majority of gTLD's (just like the majority of .COM domains) are not worth investing in, but my first-hand experience is evidence that there is money in the gTLD's that are logical, make intuitive sense and have reasonable renewal cost (typically less than $100 and never more than $500).

Congrats on your sales !
Can you share your portfolio size, your total investment and annual renewals too?

Total portfolio of nGTL's is about 1500. Total investment of $45K +/-. Renewal costs significantly less than that as many domains purchased during EAP period. Again, STAY AWAY FROM gTLD's with high renewal costs.

Impressive sales, congrats!

Earth.works sold for more than Ali Zandibot's Travel.agency ! That's impressive! :)

$45,000 to make $25,000 is - $20,000.

Is it just those 9 sales or are there more? Little above half of 1%, less than the industry standard.

How much are your renewals a year for those 1,500 domains. That's pretty important info.

Not many, that's for sure. I haven't made $25K selling domains in the past 12 months, at least not in pure profit. But I think there are still more .com domainers selling for 25K/year, than new gTLD domainers.

I haven't seen a lot of domainers making repeated sales in new extensions. The only name I have in mind is Kohsamui but the sales are lower. Either you both are extremely skilled or possibly lucky (but luck accounts for 1% in domain sales, it's about quality).

If nobody (other than registries) could make such a statement, domainers would have absolutely no reason to invest in new extensions. At least it keeps the hope alive. Good luck and strike the iron while it's hot.

So if I'm not mistaken, your average acquisition cost is 30 and average renewal cost is like 15 per domain ?

Congrats on the sale.

I'm assuming that .directory domain sale was either, D/E/N/T/I/S/T.directory or P/R/E/S/C/H/O/O/L.directory.
Peeking at the $5000 price tag, I'm assuming it is the former.

Judging by the 3 unreported .city domains of the same value, I'm guessing all of them were bought by same owner. In that case the domains would be:
P/R/O/V/O.city = $3,000
O/R/E/M.city = $3,000
L/E/X/I/N/G/T/O/N.city = $3,000

Wait, aren't the guy that Frank Schilling praised for having a wonderful portfolio of Gtld domains on Domain Sherpa?

That's wonderful -- congratulations. And thanks for sharing the details. I'd be very interested in some overview info on your inbound and outbound aspects of making the sale, to the extent you're willing to share.

Very impressive sales, congrats. Well it's still a long way to go to beat back your investments, but you are definitely on a right pass. Best of luck!

Actually Preschool.Directory and Dentist.Directory are two of the ones I kept (for now) as a "proof of concept". I wanted to make sure I could rank with premium gTLD's and build a viable business before investing in more brandable gTLD's.

Happy to say Preschool.Directory ranks organically on page 1, position 1 usually position 1 for "Preschool Directory". Dentist is a more competitive category, but still does okay considering the established competition. What's more they have proven to be very marketable and generate income every month.

I don't own Phoenix.Pizza, but that is another one that is so intuitive and usually ranks page 1, position 1.

While I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the millions of random gTLD domain names that have no intrinsic meaning, I can tell you that the exact-match premium domain names are for absolutely for real (e.g. DannyWillett.golf)

I think you also have to consider the age of these new extensions, there are always sales in the first year or 2 and then they all die a slow death. The hard part is keeping those sales going next year, and then the year after...

Nice sales though, well done

Your Preschool.Directory looks awesome, did you use a specific seo strategy to rank?
