I looked far into the future for this one. VR is the next big thing, we know. VR related domains will be huge and the lucky few to get a handful will reap great rewards... for now! When I think of virtual reality, I think of exactly that, a virtual REALITY. Now how can we bring a dose of reality into our virtual worlds, what is the next step up? The answer I found is volumetric rendering. With this technology you can put your headset on and actually BE the character, interact with REAL people and see places that actually EXIST. Instead of being a stationary turret and looking around you in 360, you can instead circle around objects and see them from any angle. The obvious video game, movie, and porn related benefits are massive and I see this as being the next big thing. I can't post links, but if you open Google and search for "volumetric video" and click on Fast Company article you can read a bit more about it.

Here's a direct quote pertaining to $:

"INVESTORS ARE ON BOARD
Investors think so too. To date, 8i, which Gasking cofounded with Eugene d’Eon in 2014, has raised $14.8 million in venture capital to build a media platform around volumetric VR"

As such I have registered a number of domains. These are:

volumetric3dmovie.com
volumetric3dmovies.com
volumetric3dvideo.com
volumetric3dvideos.com
volumetricmovies.com
volumetricvideo.com
volumetricvideocapture.com
volumetricvideoplayer.com
volumetricvideos.com
volumetricvrmovie.com
volumetricvrmovies.com
volumetricvrplayer.com
volumetricvrvideo.com
volumetricvrvideos.com
volumetricvrgaming.com
volumetricvrgames.com
volumetricvrapps.com
volumetricapps.com
volumetricgaming.com

What do you guys think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Try and get a refund if you can, I'm pretty confident in telling you that these will never sell.

Which company specialises in "Volumetric" VR?

www.8i.com

Look at their name:

Short .... check
Sweet .... check
Easy to spell .... check

They don't even mention "Volumetric" in their own domain, I wonder why. :xf.rolleyes:

This is more than likely just a gimmick and will just be seen by 99% of people as standard VR whether it is or not.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. Good luck!

8i is just one, just like at first there was Occulus. Search google for "PresenZ Volumetric VR " for another example. The keywords that I targeted was the medium itself. Pretty sure those domains will have value if the technology takes off, and I don't see why it wouldn't

I'm not seeing the different between standard VR and Volumetric VR ?

Perhaps you can explain it to me.

Cheers

VR is just the medium in which Volumetric capture can properly be administered. Volumetric capture is the next step up from photogrammetry, which are 3d images of real things without the capability of motion. Using volumetric capture, motion information can be recorded and transmitted over a medium, in this case VR since it is the most natural and makes the most sense. As an example, in traditional VR, you and I both have a headset, we put it on and interact with eachother via CGI avatars. With Volumetric VR, we can interact with eachother while actually seeing eachother as well as whatever we are wearing at the time. The difference is massive.

Traditional VR is a great gaming experience.
Volumetric VR is Omegle on crack.

Sounds like augmented reality / mixed reality.

What I'm saying is there are a lot more widely used terms in the industry to describe the same thing.

Now regardless if "Volumetric" takes off or not, I don't think anyone will buy your domains.

If you are not aware already have a look at these threads. There are a lot of people already on the ball trying to find short, sweet, catchy VR/AR/MR terms.

These terms are more than likely going to be used over "Volumetric" which is long, hard to spell and not catchy.

This is just my opinion.

The main point of my domains is not branding, it's mainly for SEO since any searches will likely contain those words. If you were looking into this technology, what would you type into the search engine? I've worked with Google for years managing PPC campaigns. These domains are great to get up in the rankings for relevant search terms and then a simple redirect can take you to whatever short and catchy company owns it.

Uh ok? Where did you get the idea that I didn't want to hear opinions? You guys didn't even know what this was or how it works to begin with. I was merely defending my reasoning behind my purchase. Don't be presumptuous.

Who knows what the future holds, time will tell what sticks and what doesn't. It's not the end of the world if you get it wrong, just keep trying. My final advice to you is read this forum, there's a lot of useful information here if you are interested at all. GL

For anyone wanting to know the differences.

Virtual reality gives you the illusion of being in a different place as a different person, usually a 100% CGI created environment. An example would be being a warrior in a fantasy video game.

Augmented or mixed reality superimposes a 3d CGI environment around you in real time while also making use of your real life surroundings and/or yourself. Examples would be driving a fake race car or blowing digital holes into your living room wall.

Volumetric VR allows you to observe real people, places, or objects in full three dimensions remotely. An example would be get your nearest relative and walk around them a bit, now imagine they were a thousand miles away, but felt right next to you.

Or how about a social mass multiplayer game where your avatar is really yourself, in whatever you are wearing at the time. Sword Art Online anyone? Can only be done with volumetric capture.

Not the same thing.
