Hey Folks

So I saw a thread here asking people about owning their first names in .com

Now this got be thinking.... I was actually looking at doing this myself.. but do any of you own ur surname in any particular TLD? like maybe .com or net or even in the country code you live it... the reason I'm keen on doing this is purely for email. I mean it would look something like this:

[email protected] - I don't know about you but I think it would be really cool... plus you can give all your family members a customized email address as sell. My surname is taken in both .com / .net and country code so was wondering of any of you guys have done this? and if any of you have used any of the new tld's perhaps to achieve this because ur surname is already taken in the main TLD's

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Nope (mainly because it contains the letter 'ö'). But I do own a lot of other people's surnames ;)

Hhahah classic, grabbing other peoples surnames... Hey, maybe create a few email address of popular people with those surnames.. and EMAIL them using that email address and ask them if they want to buy the domain with the email address :) ...hahaha (or send them messages on Facebook)

My reasoning is that they're (.COMs) are quite resistant to the influx of new G's. Haven't had much success with them though so in the process of downgrading my holdings on those. Not that I own that many.

Nice, - I also checked my full name and it is available on most of the main TLD's but...I'm more keen on the forename@surname idea...

That's what I mean to do next year. I've registered a domain hack, which is shortest possible DN of some large network, named as the owner' surname.

Yes, surname@name in .com, ccTLDs.
But I use it only for official correspondence or on CV.
Indeed you can also set up custom addresses for family members.

Nice! - I think it looks good as an email address and people would also be able to remember it easily if u just give to them on the phone or in passing.

Though my first name and surname are both available in major tlds, not registering them so that when someone registers them can ask for some money in lieu of not filing a udrp :xf.wink:

Can you please tell me whether you own my surname :xf.frown:
Jokes apart, I have the following names in new gtld which happens to be the exact names of two famous personalities, the domain being the first name and the tld being their surname :xf.cool: Jim Host and Michele Host (put the dot in between)

Hmmmm... If you could find out their middle names (if they have any) then you could register that as well because then they could have something like this as their email address: Michele@middlename.host

Lol... nicely done. I was thinking about .email as well. The only issue I'm concerned with is that non tech savy folks would probably get confused with a .email TLD they would probably end up phoning me to as me if my email address is correct...lol. (This concern might be more of an issue locally considering I'm based in South Africa... haahaa)

Is correct or mycorrect dot email available?
This should solve your concern. :xf.smile:

P.S. I don't bill for silly suggestions.

A lot of "non-tech savvy folks" are confused with most of the new gTLDs ;)

Either way an .email TLD to send emails just made sense to me. Having my surname in .com would of course have been better but my surname in .com is currently owned by realnames.com and they are using it as an email service. I could basically have [email protected] for $35/year (each additional address is $10/year extra). It's not super expensive but it's not the same as owning the domain yourself (plus I wouldn't be the only one using this domain since the email service sells to anyone with the same surname ).

Here's a story related to my .email domain: In December I bought a Surface Pro 4 with a Microsoft Type Cover (keyboard). The keyboard was the wrong color so I contacted Microsoft support by phone to get a new Type Cover in a different color. We chatted a bit and at one point the support guy noticed my email address associated with my microsoft account ([email protected]) and told me that he thinks it is really cool to have an email address like that. :xf.cool:

Most excellent... I guess it does kinda make sense the more I think about it. I might end up going the .email route.....

1. I have my own first & last name .com / not in use.

2. My wife has her first name, middle initial and last name .com / redirects to a website of ours.

3. My wife also has her " 1st name initial, middle name initial and full last name" .com / used as an email mail address.

4. My wife also has her maiden name .com.

4a. Her maiden name .com was used for general family stuff years ago and now is used by her brother
primarily for his email usage. ( he is a journalist / writer and likes having use of his surname for emails)

5. Years ago she also had the first name / middle initial / last name .com of a rather prominent 19th Century ancestor and we had a mini website dedicated to him and accomplishments on the site.

6. Also years ago she also had the first name /last name .com of a very prominent ancestor of hers from the early 17th Century although we never developed a page/site.

All the above were hand regs about 12 - 16 years ago.

Guess we were personal name visionaries, LOL.

I like the idea of .email!
I inquired about my surname in .com, the quote was $150,000 owned by a big consortium, but on sale.
I currently own surname.family coz Name.com was doing a $5 Happy Hour deal.
Eg:- [email protected]
