GoDaddy sent out an email informing:

“There is a $2 price increase for .ORG domain names I wanted to inform you about. The .ORG Registry is increasing the price for all Registrars and as a result, GoDaddy will be increasing the pricing for the .ORG TLD which will be reflected within your account. I have pincluded the specifics below:

• This is a $2 price increase for all new registrations, renewals, and transfers of .ORG domain names.

• This change will take place on August 1, 2016.

Should you wish to take advantage of the current rates, please be sure you do so before the price change on August 1, 2016. Once the change is implemented, we will be unable to retroactively price any domain names.”

@Joe Styler

Could you explain please why increase in cost by $0.88 leads to increase in price by $2.00?

I am not sure what your pricing will be as you have an account rep. He should be able to explain your pricing and reasoning to you. If you use the domain discount club https://www.godaddy.com/domains/discount-domains.aspx you will get the best possible pricing on domains regardless of if you have an account representative. I do not believe we have made the .org price increase via the domain discount club public yet so that may be better than the $2 increase you were quoted. Most likely the representatives are just trying to help you get ready for the increase so that you are able to renew at the cheaper price in advance of any price changes.
The domain discount club .org pricing will most likely not be released until the price change takes effect on August 1.

@Joe Styler , please update.

It is now a fact that Godaddy has used the registry price increase as an excuse to increase the price for its DDC members by 2.5 times, i.e. instead of $0.87, you guys have increased .org price by $2 bringing it to $11.99

I need explanation on this urgently. This does not characterize Godaddy well and I will move all my 1850 .org domains away, and, possibly, all 3350 domains, because I don't want to get a surprise next time .com goes up by 80 cents to get hit by another $2 increase in wholesale pricing.

I have to say I am a bit surprised to see this post. You have been copying me on your emails to your account representative over the past week discussing pricing options. You should continue to follow up with him as he has the ability to adjust pricing for top customers like yourself.

@Joe Styler

I have copied you in the emails, received response from the rep which is contradicting what you wrote here, so hence addressed you here, before responding to rep again.

I don't need a setup where I have to go through the rep for renewals to give me a specific $0.5 discount per name when you have raised your price by $2.0 when your cost went up by $0.87. I need a straight-forward fair pricing.

I need to understand why GoDaddy would use the excuse of cost raise to double-triple their margin.

Any pricing discussions should be directed to your assigned agent.

@Joe Styler

Please forget that I am a client with an agent. Treat my question as a one posted by a regular Discounted Domain Club member.

And here is the question:

Why Godaddy increased the price for .org for its wholesale club members by $2/name when its cost went up by $0.87?

Our pricing changes all the time and we always strive to stay competitive and provide real value for our customers, which includes things like award winning free support 24 hours a day every day, even holidays.

Sure. I guess others do award losing paid service. And hence are not entitled to raise their price 200% over the real cost increase.

I get your message that I am better off taking my business elsewhere.

Registrars take wholesale increases as a chance to increase prices for more profit.
