Why is all my "popular threads right now" years old?

When ever I look at the forum list I have a feed of "popular threads right now", the one thing they have in common is that they all have replies from 2013 or before that as newest reply. So "right now" is sort of a misnomer.

Something must be misfiring on my profile?

 

They're popular right now - based on views, not date. This has been discussed here several times before, but there is nothing wrong - it's basically how it is set up. It's useless, since most of what shows up there is, as you say, years old, and either contains useless info, or just outdated info not really relevant anymore.

There has been suggestions for example to limit it to a year old (at most) threads, and so forth - Shawn haven't taken those suggestions to heart yet

 

LOL. Thank you for that explanation. It seemed like an error. Since to me "right now" indicates that it is current. But I guess its more like "Random most popular threads to date".

No. Again, they ARE popular right now. In that the statistics show that those are the most viewed threads RIGHT NOW. It's not a total count of all views through time, it's just that people seem to find old, irrelevant threads and view them - basically (often) to attach a random, irrelevant comment, because they think they get "established" (can do more on the site) by posting more. But it's not random based on previous views, at least not according to Shawn.

However, it is a bit of an irrelevant list, I do agree.

 

Wouldn't this be a reflection of the thread's age and ranking on the search engines? The older threads, with good content, will likely get the high traffic referrals and that is why they get so many views this week, despite their age.

 

Yep, unless a thread was shared on a popular site or something like that.
