Corporate Domain Movers: Clinicade.com + More

Coming off of a weekend, domain movers are always “light” so this addition will reflect that but here are a few that I detected over the weekend that grabbed my eye:

Johnson & Johnson has acquired the domain name Clinicade.com from its past owner, Roger Grant for an undisclosed amount. The domain has been registered since 2010. J&J filed for a trademark for Clinicade on October 27, 2015 with statements relating to:

  • Diagnostic preparations and reagents for medical purposes
  • Medical device for measuring levels of anti-psychotic pharmaceutical preparations in a patient’s blood

J&J registered the domain name Clinicade.net prior on May 31, 2016. If the past owner didn’t know who the potential buyer was, they did have clues.

Unilever registered several “Verve” domain names, including: VerveLaundry.com, VerveProtect.com and VerveSerum.com. They currently do not own Verve.com.

Information Services Inc. has acquired the domain name SLE.com from GoDaddy/NameFind. The buyer appears to be a domain name investor.

PureBaby.com.au has acquired the domain name PureBaby.com from Pure Baby Inc. They used the domain name buy services of Marksmen to help with acquiring the domain name for an undisclosed amount.

Fusion Media Networks registered the domain names, BeRoused.com, .net and .org and also registered Roused.org (.com is for sale for $700) and Rousers.net (.com is for sale for $4,588)

Codias LLC has acquired its EMD and purchased Codias.com at domain name aftermarket service Sedo. They have put up a Coming Soon page on the domain.

Naming Tips

I wanted to share an interesting article on GeekWire.com this weekend. They spoke with 13 Seattle startups on how they decided on the names of their companies. I always like hearing these types of stories and you will notice that several mention the domain as a key factor in one way or another. All 13 should have really!! Here is the story. Although the companies domain names are not clear in the story, Tune, Socrata, Porch at least are on EMD .com’s that I know for sure.

It is vital to own the exact match of your brand as a .com! Another common thread of the batch, they started out as another name and switched. This is a distraction, added cost and something that can be avoided if done right the first time! Great brand names are available at fair prices. Work with somebody like myself and I can show you! I personally like starting with priced domains and build the brand that way. Once securing the .com (making sure no TM issues etc) you have a very solid base to build your brand.

  1. The story about the Seattle entrepreneurs was a great read! The Hubtag story caught my attention the most; largely because we own a similar domain name Hubset .com that is equally great for a company name.

Also observed the Hubtag startup does not own the EMD .com of their brand name, rather settling for less with a .net. Why do startups continue to make this huge mistake?
