Company behind .cloud starts running TV ads today.

Last week I wrote about how GoDaddy will be running commercials in pre- and post-debate coverage on major networks.

.Cloud is also getting ready to run ads on CNN, which will air in the U.S. and Asia.

The 15-second spot positions .cloud as a bit more generic than for just cloud enterprises in the webhosting sense. It points customers to GoDaddy.cloud.

This is an interesting move and certainly one to watch. Does it make financial sense to promote a non-generic new top level domain to the masses via TV?

Appreciate the post and link.

Re the video, perhaps appealing to entrepreneurs and an emerging target audience of small business owners to buy & brand with .cloud?

Perhaps a follow-up to the advertisements & measurable registrations, launches, etc. will be possible down the road.

Yep, I think just by them getting the actual domain (brand) out there in front of peoples eyes (non domainers) it would create a level of "brand awareness", so ideally for them that brand awareness could start to drive sales...

Probably not. And cloud is a buzzword now, but ten years down the road ? Far from certain...
Who paid for the ad ? Godaddy ? Godaddy.cloud is just a redirect to Godaddy.com. And if the name is taken in .cloud you get suggestions for other extensions... As long as you buy something, Godaddy is winning.

I think most people don't know what cloud is.

cloud premium pricing is just insane. 65k for guru.cloud

I have always wondered, what is the percentage of end users who are going try premium keywords in new extensions like the one being advertised, to find out how they are priced ? How will they react ?
Aftermarket .com domains are looking so affordable now.

Still baffles me how people would supposedly good business brains think it makes good business sense to introduce a premium pricing model in the first place.

New G premium pricing and renewals in the long run will push more to the aftermarket. New registries think people are that stupid, they are not.

advertisement will always work on the mind of a consumer when they come to the subject and are deciding, hmmm I'm thinking on buying a domain at this time, .cloud that I just saw on tv or .com hmmm

Whoever is advertising the .cloud domain (i.e. GoDaddy) is winning either way. As mentioned, it's being re-directed to godaddy.com and other offerings are there. Besides, premium .cloud prices are ridiculous. someone mentioned guru.cloud for $65k. Why, just why would you pay that much?
