5L must be at least memorable and readable/pronounceable...

Regarding so-called CHIPs (letters)...
Their max. length that has value is 4.

Name is actually everything which is memorable/readable/pronounceable/brandable...

Regarding dictionary words - it depends on target audience...

I search godaddy for dot com's I think of and many are available. It's a speculation market and the development fatigue is more a turnoff now.

Regarding your "KRK" - 3 letters here... and it may be considered as acronym with many meanings...
We are talking about 5/6L...

Even if they are scooped up by speculators that doesn't mean they have value.
End users don't need random domains. Of course some are brandable but most are ugly combos.

Domains are not 'antiques' and were meant to be used in practical everyday business and commerce. This fad based on length of characters (though practical for 3l, 4l) are an illusion contained in the domainers circle. Where does it end? Are all 9 character domains more valuable then 10?

Exactly right. As usual Kate you are always spot on.

Simplicity matters, but so does aesthetics. A name should not only sound great and be memorable. It should look the part too,. Nothing better than a name that looks amazing. Part of the reason Google went with Google, they did consider Googel, but it does not look as natural. And the two "O's" make it look friendly, appealing and approachable too.
