    If so, what do you have....?

    The last two companies that I have worked for had worthless
    dental insurance, in fact, their dental insurance was so bad that
    I would have respected them more if they had just told me that
    we do not offer dental insurance....

    It is pretty bad, and embarrassing giving the dental office your insurance
    card, just to find that you pretty much have zero coverage....

    Let me guess, it is part of the:
    Obama Dental Scam

    Here is your insurance card, btw,
    you have no coverage for major dental.

    My parents are retired and have no dental insurance. I was surprised when they told me they pay their dental expenses out of pocket. I had some cosmetic dentistry done many years ago and was shocked at how expensive it was for about 20 minutes of the dentist's time. Maybe there is a community dental place in your community that specializes in people who have no dental insurance or are low income. They have them in my area.

    Few people have it in NZ but it's covered by the Govt until you leave school, we have good health education and most areas have fluoride in the water. Orthodontic treatment is expensive but most places have payment plans.

    Unfortunately in the US it's expensive - many people have Healthfirst, but many practices don't take it. When you get a job, always negotiate dental insurance - even if you contribute something towards it. It could save you a lot of money later....Good Luck

    Your company is cheaping out. My company offers dental (free checkup/cleaning) + pay 50% on other appointments up to $2500. The company pays $60 and I pay $60 every month for it.

    I do. I was surprised when I had to get a root canal and barely anything was covered. I did some research in many dental insurance is really only cover preventative stuff. Like routine checkups.

    I guess that's why it's only like $20 per month for some of the lower-cost plan.

    I currently have dental insurance through my company. However, just a few years ago I had to buy my own health and dental insurance. Up here in New England, about the only credible dental insurer is Delta Dental. I vaguely recall the monthly premium for a family plan was about $150. They covered checkups, fillings, and some procedures, though not everything. I think that you could have one crown done per year.
