.co.uk domain redemption period... how fast will it be snagged?
I have my eye on a .co.uk domain. It has expired and has now entered its redemption period which I believe is 90 days, which will then enter a deletion period for between 1-7 days, it will then become available to the public.
I believe this domain will have some commercial value and could be snagged quite quickly.
I've read that domains that could be popular will automatically be re-registered within a fraction of a second of becoming available... obviously much quicker than I can do it manually.
I also do not trust these services that offer to do it for you.
The information I have read regarding this is quite old I'm wondering if it is still relevant, do these auto domain registering services still exist? are they reliable? should I expect .co.uk domains to carry the same weight as a .com?
I'm now torn between making an offer to the owner (and running the risk of being declined and owner renewing it themselves) or waiting and trying to register it when it becomes available (and running the risk of being beaten to it)
Thoughts?█ LunaHost

hmmmm, that's a delicate game your playing
According to nominet http://registrars.nominet.uk/gtlds/domain-lifecycle. is 30 days.
I would not make the owner an offer on it, if they see interested they could ask an unreasonable amount or renew it as they know it has value and buyers interested. If it were me I'd keep silent and try and snipe it the minute it's out of redemption.

Thanks for your input earlier, I contacted the owner but yet to receive a response.. I didn't mention the domain in question (I know this guy owns lots of domains) so hopefully it wont be renewed just to charge me a premium, I'm more than happy to buy it off the previous owner for a fair price, I just don't want to be held to ransom... If I don't receive a response then it's fair game when it is released.
I've managed to grab the .uk version so all is not lost█ LunaHost

Just for the record, the life cycle for .uk domains is...
Suspension 30 days after expiry
Deletion 90 days after expiry (60 days after suspension)
And it's an instant deletion on Day 90.
OP, how did you manage to get the .uk? It is my understanding that they are reserved until 2019 for the holder of the co.uk equivalent. (Free of charge... which is why I haven't taken up any of mine).
Or was the co.uk registered after May 2014? I believe there was a cut-off date after which .uk domains are not reserved for the registrant of the equivalent .co.uk
